Job summary

LifeLabs LP in Ontario is seeking a Lab Patient Technician to support specimen collection across multiple Patient Service Centre locations, including Scarborough, Durham Region, Markham, Toronto and North York.

You will greet patients, perform phlebotomy, ECG tracings, and other test collections, and ensure proper documentation while maintaining patient privacy and delivering compassionate service.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an approved Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent.
  • Phlebotomy experience is an asset.
  • ECG training or experience is an asset.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Strong computer skills with a minimum typing speed of 40 wpm.
  • Strong customer/patient service skills and ability to stay calm under pressure.
  • Ability to maintain patient privacy and confidentiality.

Responsibilities

  • Greet patients and collect required information, explain the specimen collection process, and ensure prep compliance.
  • Perform phlebotomies, connect/disconnect holter monitors, and perform ECG tracings.
  • Perform special test collections (medical/legal drug screens, paternity tests, clinical trials) and complete docs.
  • Maintain client relationships and respond to inquiries and follow up on requests.
  • Complete data entry of patient demographics, requisition info, and test results processing details.
  • Prepare specimens for transportation and testing.

Job description

As a Lab Patient Technician you will be responsible for the specimen collection process, from greeting patients through to preparation of specimens for transportation. This is an important role in patient care and our business, and will let you see the difference that you make in patients’ lives.

Status: Part Time Float

Schedule: Mondays to Saturdays

Additional requirements: Scheduled shifts may begin as early as 6:30 a.m. and end as late as 6:30 p.m. This position requires travel to multiple Patient Service Centre locations, including Scarborough, Durham Region, Markham, Toronto and North York. As such, candidates must have reliable personal transportation and be able to travel between locations as scheduled.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Greet and request required information from patients, explain the specimen collection process, and ensure patients have followed necessary test protocol prior to specimen collection.
  • Perform phlebotomies, connect/disconnect holter monitors, and perform ECG tracings.
  • Perform special test collections, such as medical/legal drug screens, paternity tests, and clinical trials, and complete related documentation.
  • Maintain client relationships, including responding to inquiries and following up on requests.
  • Complete data entry of required patient demographics, requisition information, and other information related to processing test results.
  • Prepare specimens for transportation and testing.

What you will bring to the role:
