Job summary

LifeLabs is seeking a part-time Lab Patient Technician for a float role across locations in the Toronto area. You will greet patients, collect information, and prepare specimens for transport while ensuring adherence to test protocols.

Responsibilities include phlebotomy, ECG tracing, and coordinating special test collections. Strong communication, typing speed, and empathy are essential to succeed in this patient-facing role.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an approved Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent preferred.
• Phlebotomy experience is an asset.
• ECG training or experience is an asset.

Responsibilities

• Greet patients, collect information, explain the collection process and test protocols.
• Perform phlebotomies, connect/disconnect holter monitors, and perform ECG tracings.
• Handle special test collections (drug screens, paternity tests, clinical trials) and document appropriately.
• Maintain client relationships and respond to inquiries and requests.
• Enter patient demographics and requisition data for test results.
• Prepare specimens for transportation and testing.

Job description

As a Lab Patient Technician you will be responsible for the specimen collection process, from greeting patients through to preparation of specimens for transportation. This is an important role in patient care and our business, and will let you see the difference that you make in patients’ lives.

Status: Part Time Regular Float
Schedule: Sundays to Saturdays
Additional requirements: Successful candidate must be flexible available to work an early shift at 7:30AM and the later shift at 7:30PM. Willing to work on weekends Saturday and Sunday full day. This is a float position candidate must be willing to assigned at different locations

Your responsibilities will include:

• Greet and request required information from patients, explain the specimen collection process, and ensure patients have followed necessary test protocol prior to specimen collection.
• Perform phlebotomies, connect/disconnect holter monitors, and perform ECG tracings.
• Perform special test collections, such as medical/legal drug screens, paternity tests, and clinical trials, and complete related documentation.
• Maintain client relationships, including responding to inquiries and following up on requests.
• Complete data entry of required patient demographics, requisition information, and other information related to processing test results.
• Prepare specimens for transportation and testing.

What you will bring to the role:

• Graduate of an approved Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent are preferred.
• Phlebotomy experience is an asset.
• ECG training or experience is an asset
• Excellent communication skills.
• Good computer skills with a minimum typing speed of 40 wpm.
• Strong customer/patient service with the ability to relate to patients and clients even in stressful situations
• Strong empathy, flexibility, adaptability to change, and problem solving skills
• Ability to maintain the strictest standards of patient privacy and confidentiality.
