Job summary

LifeLabs LP in Ottawa is seeking a Lab Patient Technician to handle the specimen collection process, from greeting patients through to preparation of specimens for transportation.

This temporary, full-time role requires flexible shifts and mainly serves 5303 Canotek, with occasional support at nearby locations and some Saturday mornings at the Orleans site.

You will greet patients, perform phlebotomy and ECG tracings, prepare specimens, enter data, and maintain strict patient privacy.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an approved Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent preferred.
• Phlebotomy experience is an asset.
• ECG training or experience is an asset.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Good computer skills with typing speed ~40 wpm.
• Strong customer/patient service, even in stressful situations.
• Empathy, flexibility and problem-solving abilities.
• Maintain strict patient privacy and confidentiality.

Responsibilities

• Greet and request required information from patients, explain the specimen collection process, and ensure patients follow test protocol.
• Perform phlebotomies, connect/disconnect holter monitors, and perform ECG tracings.
• Perform special test collections (e.g., medical/legal drug screens, paternity tests, clinical trials) and complete related documentation.
• Maintain client relationships, respond to inquiries and follow up on requests.
• Complete data entry of patient demographics, requisition information, and other processing data.
• Prepare specimens for transportation and testing.

Status: Temporary
Schedule: Full-Time. Various shifts and schedules depending on operational demands.
Additional requirements: This temp role will primarily be scheduled at the 5303 Canotek location, but may occasionally support at other nearby locations. The successful candidate will also be required to work some Saturday mornings at the Orleans location.
