Job summary

Colonial Group is seeking a part-time Lab Patient Technician in Toronto, Ontario. You will greet patients, collect specimens, perform phlebotomies, Holter monitor connections, and ECG tracings, and prepare samples for transport.

Responsibilities include documenting tests and maintaining patient privacy while providing excellent service. The role requires flexibility to cover shifts 7:00–5:00 as needed, a valid driver's license, fast typing (40 wpm), and strong communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Greet patients, collect required information, and explain collection procedure.
• Perform phlebotomies, connect/disconnect Holter monitors, and conduct ECG tracings.
• Collect special tests (drug screens, paternity tests, clinical trials) and document results.
• Maintain client relationships and respond to inquiries and requests.
• Enter patient demographics and requisition data accurately.
• Prepare specimens for transportation and testing.

Job description

As aLab Patient Technicianyou will be responsible for the specimen collection process, from greeting patients through to preparation of specimens for transportation. This is an important role in patient care and our business, and will let you see the difference that you make in patients’ lives.

Status: Part Time Regular

Schedule: Mon to Fri 11:00-4:00 closing shift and every Saturday 8-12:30pm

Additional requirements: Candidate needs to be flexible to cover shifts between 7:00 to 5:00pm as needed. Candidate must have valid driving license and a car as sometimes needed to cover the region. Candidate must have fast typing skills as the job require to do data entry

Your responsibilities will include:

• Greet and request required information from patients, explain the specimen collection process, and ensure patients have followed necessary test protocol prior to specimen collection.
• Perform phlebotomies, connect/disconnect holter monitors, and perform ECG tracings.
• Perform special test collections, such as medical/legal drug screens, paternity tests, and clinical trials, and complete related documentation.
• Maintain client relationships, including responding to inquiries and following up on requests.
• Complete data entry of required patient demographics, requisition information, and other information related to processing test results.
• Prepare specimens for transportation and testing.

What you will bring to the role:

• Graduate of an approved Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent are preferred.
• Phlebotomy experience is an asset.
• ECG training or experience is an asset
• Excellent communication skills.
• Good computer skills with a minimum typing speed of 40 wpm.
• Strong customer/patient service with the ability to relate to patients and clients even in stressful situations
• Strong empathy, flexibility, adaptability to change, and problem solving skills
• Ability to maintain the strictest standards of patient privacy and confidentiality.
