Job summary

LifeLabs is seeking a Lab Patient Technician for a 6-month contract. Responsibilities include greeting patients, collecting specimens, performing phlebotomies, ECG tracings, and special test collections. You will maintain client relationships and ensure accurate data entry for processing test results.

The role requires good communication, patient privacy, and adaptability to varying schedules (6:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.). This temporary part-time position starts 2 November 2026 and ends 3 May 2027.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an approved Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent preferred.
  • Phlebotomy experience is an asset.
  • ECG training or experience is an asset.
  • Excellent communication skills are essential.
  • Good computer skills with typing speed of at least 40 wpm.
  • Strong customer/patient service with ability to connect with patients even under stress.
  • Ability to maintain patient privacy and confidentiality.

Responsibilities

  • Greet patients, collect required information, explain the specimen collection process and ensure test protocol is followed.
  • Perform phlebotomies, connect/disconnect holter monitors, and perform ECG tracings.
  • Carry out special test collections such as medical/legal drug screens, paternity tests, and clinical trials, and complete related documentation.
  • Maintain client relationships by responding to inquiries and following up on requests.
  • Enter patient demographics and requisition information accurately for processing test results.
  • Prepare specimens for transportation and testing.

Job description

As a Lab Patient Technician you will be responsible for the specimen collection process, from greeting patients through to preparation of specimens for transportation. This is an important role in patient care and our business, and will let you see the difference that you make in patients’ lives.

Status: Temporary Part Time Regular
Schedule: Various based on operational needs
Additional requirements: This is a temporary RPT Lab Patient Technician position with a 6-month contract. LifeLabs provides 8 to 10 weeks of full-time training for external candidates to support a successful onboarding experience. Please note that work schedules may vary between 6:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., and candidates must be available to work within these hours based on operational requirements
