Job summary

Dynacare is seeking a Laboratory Assistant Float to obtain quality blood samples and other specimens, perform patient tests, and uphold quality metrics in a supportive team environment at Ottawa-area labs.

You will enter data for Ministry of Health requisitions, perform venipuncture with care, and manage specimens, including ECGs and Holter hookups, while delivering empathetic patient service, maintaining confidentiality, and adhering to SOPs. This role may require lifting up to 30 pounds.

Qualifications

• Completion of secondary education and a laboratory/medical lab training with phlebotomy.
• Customer-focused with genuine care for patient health.
• Strong phlebotomy skills and ability to calm anxious patients.
• Ability to manage deadlines and work independently.
• Excellent written and verbal English.

Responsibilities

• Obtain quality blood samples and other specimens from patients.

Job description

Laboratory Assistant Float

As a Laboratory Assistant float, you are responsible for obtaining quality blood samples and other specimens from patients, conducting patient tests, and maintaining quality metrics in a positive team environment. You also provide customer service to create the best possible patient experience, displaying empathy and care in stressful situations.

Employment Details

• Status: Permanent Full Time (28 hours guaranteed weekly)
• Vacancy type: Existing
• Shift: Day Shift, Monday to Friday, 6:45 am – 5:30 pm and half day on Saturdays (On Site)
• Location: Ottawa and surrounding areas
• MLPAO/CSMLS Certification is strongly recommended

Responsibilities

• Create an ideal customer experience that is best in class and engages with individuals around our products and services
• Accurately enter data, patient, and test information for Ministry of Health requisitions
• Obtain quality blood samples and other specimens from patients, using skillful venipuncture techniques in keeping with Dynacare’s mission and values
• Sort and steer specimens, perform ECGs, Holter Hookups, paternity, urine, drug and breath alcohol collections
• Ensure specimens and supporting documentation are completed as required in SOPs and ready for data entry and transportation to the laboratory, following established protocols for the handling of suitable and unsuitable samples
• Ensure all confidential information is maintained in a secure fashion
• Contribute to meeting departmental/corporate quality metrics, regulatory compliance and quality indicators

Qualifications

• Completed Secondary School and a Laboratory Assistant training program or a Medical Lab Assistance course with specialized training in phlebotomy
• Customer-focused with a genuine care for patient’s health
• Demonstrated skill in phlebotomy, managing anxious patients through the sample obtaining process in a pleasant, calming, and reassuring manner
• Prioritize and self-manage within a deadline-oriented environment
• Extremely detail oriented
• Proficiency in English, both written and verbal, at a level that enables clear communication of instructions to patients

Working Conditions

• May be required to lift a maximum of 30 pounds
• Repetitive movements with frequent computer use
• May require frequent standing, sitting, bending, etc.

Pay

Pay rate: $21.00-$24.75 per hour. Final pay offer will consider experience and education.
