Job summary

Dynacare is seeking a Laboratory Assistant Float in Ottawa to obtain quality blood samples and specimens, perform patient tests, and provide exceptional customer service for a superior patient experience. The role is on-site with day shifts, Monday to Friday, and occasional Saturdays.

MLPAO/CSMLS certification is strongly recommended. The position offers a permanent full-time status with competitive pay and benefits.

Qualifications

• Completed Secondary School and a Laboratory Assistant training program or a Medical Lab Assistance course with specialized training in phlebotomy.
• Customer-focused with genuine care for patient health.
• Demonstrate skill in phlebotomy and calm anxious patients.

Responsibilities

• Create best-in-class customer experience and engage with patients about products and services.
• Accurately enter data, patient and test information for Health Ministry requisitions.
• Obtain quality blood samples and other specimens from patients using venipuncture techniques.
• Sort and steer specimens, perform ECGs, Holter hookups, paternity, urine, drug and breath alcohol collections.
• Prepare specimens and documentation for data entry and lab transportation following SOPs.

Job Posting: Laboratory Assistant Float

We are looking for a Laboratory Assistant Float. You will be responsible for obtaining quality blood samples and other specimens from patients, and conducting other patient tests in accordance with Dynacare’s mission and values. You will also play an important role in providing customer service to create the best possible patient experience.

Position Details

Status: Permanent full Time. Vacancy type: Existing.
Shift: Day Shift, Monday to Friday, between the hours of 6:45 am – 5:30 pm and half day on Saturdays. Work Style: On Site. Location: Ottawa and surrounding areas.

MLPAO/CSMLS Certification is strongly recommended.

How YOU will make a difference

• Accurately enter data, patient, and test information for Ministry of Health requisitions
• Obtain quality blood samples and other specimens from patients, using skillful venipuncture techniques, performed in keeping with Dynacare’s mission and values
• Sort and steer specimens, perform ECGs, Holter hookups, paternity, urine, drug and breath alcohol collections
• Ensure specimens and supporting documentation are completed as required in SOPs and ready for data entry and transportation to the laboratory, following established protocols for the handling of suitable and unsuitable samples
• Ensure all confidential information is maintained in a secure fashion. Contribute to meeting the departmental/corporate quality metrics, regulatory compliance and quality indicators

What YOU bring to the role

• Completed Secondary School and a Laboratory Assistant training program or a Medical Lab Assistance course with specialized training in phlebotomy
• Customer‑focused with a genuine care for patient’s health
• Demonstrate skill in phlebotomy, with the ability to manage anxious patients through the sample obtaining process in a pleasant, calming and reassuring manner
• Prioritize and self‑manage within a deadline‑oriented environment
• Be extremely detail oriented
• Proficiency in English, both written and verbal, at a level that enables you to communicate instructions, clearly and understandably, to patients

Working Conditions

• Medical laboratory environment
• May be required to lift a maximum of 30 pounds
• Repetitive movements with frequent computer use
• At times might require frequent standing, sitting, bending, etc.

Pay rate: $21.00–$24.75 per hour. The hiring pay range has been established; however, the final pay offer will be determined by taking into consideration various factors including but not limited to, level of experience and education requirements.
