Job summary

Dynacare is hiring a Laboratory Assistant (Float) in Burlington, Canada. This part-time position involves obtaining blood samples and conducting patient tests. You will need a secondary education and a Laboratory Assistant training program. The role emphasizes customer service and attention to detail. Qualifications

  • Demonstrated skill in phlebotomy, managing anxious patients calmly.
  • High level of detail orientation and proficiency in English, both written and verbal.

Job Title

Laboratory Assistant (Float)

About the Role

As a Laboratory Assistant (Float), you are responsible for obtaining quality blood samples and other specimens from patients, and conducting other patient tests, in accordance with Dynacare’s mission and values. You will assist in building a positive team environment, maintaining quality metrics, and providing customer service to create the best possible patient experience.

Responsibilities
  • Obtain quality blood samples and other specimens, using skillful venipuncture techniques.
  • Accurately enter data, patient, and test information for Ministry of Health requisitions.
  • Sort and steer specimens, perform ECGs, Holter Hookups, paternity, urine, drug and breath alcohol collections.
  • Ensure specimens and supporting documentation are complete and ready for data entry and transportation to the laboratory, following SOPs and established protocols.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all information.
  • Contribute to meeting departmental/corporate quality metrics, regulatory compliance, and quality indicators.
Qualifications
  • Completed secondary school and a Laboratory Assistant training program, or a Medical Lab Assistance course with specialized training in phlebotomy.
  • Customer‑focused with a genuine care for patient health.
  • Demonstrated skill in phlebotomy, managing anxious patients calmly and reassuringly.
  • Ability to prioritize and self‑manage within a deadline‑oriented environment.
  • High level of detail orientation.
  • Proficiency in English, both written and verbal.
  • MLPAO/CSMLS Certification is strongly recommended.

Compensation

Pay rate: $20.00 – $22.25 per hour (final offer based on experience and education).

Work Details
  • Contract, Part‑Time, 6 months (Guaranteed 24 hours a week).
  • Shift: Day shifts, 6:30 am – 5:30 pm, Monday – Saturday.
  • Float locations: Kitchener, Niagara Falls, Hamilton and Burlington, ON.
  • Discipline: Laboratory and Health Services Centre.
  • Number of positions: 1.
  • Start date: As soon as possible.
