Job summary

Dynacare in Port Elgin, Ontario is seeking a Laboratory Assistant to obtain quality blood samples and perform patient tests in a team-based environment. You will assist with data entry for health requisitions and maintain patient care with empathy and accuracy.

Qualifications

• Completed Secondary School and a Laboratory Assistant training program or Medical Lab Assistance with phlebotomy training.
• Customer-focused with genuine care for patients’ health.
• Demonstrates phlebotomy skills and calming approach for anxious patients.
• Prioritizes and self-manages in a deadline-oriented environment.
• Extremely detail oriented and able to communicate in English.

Responsibilities

• Create an ideal customer experience and engage with patients about products and services.
• Accurately enter data, patient, and test information for Ministry of Health requisitions.
• Obtain quality blood samples and other specimens from patients using venipuncture techniques.
• Sort specimens and perform ECGs, Holter hookups, paternity, urine, drug, and breath alcohol collections.
• Ensure specimens and documentation are completed per SOPs and ready for transport to the lab.
• Maintain confidentiality and contribute to quality metrics and regulatory compliance.

As a Laboratory Assistant, you are responsible for obtaining quality blood samples and other specimens from patients, as well as conducting other patient tests, all in keeping with Dynacare's mission and values. Working as part of a team, you are assisting in building a positive team environment and maintaining quality metrics. You also play an important role in providing customer service to create the best possible patient experience. These can be stressful situations for patients, and you need to display empathy, care, and kindness.

Status: Permanent Full Time

Vacancy Type: Replacement

Shift: Monday to Friday, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm

Work Style: On Site

Location: 466 Goderich St. Port Elgin, Ontario.

Start Date: ASAP

How YOU will make a difference:

• Create an ideal customer experience that is best in class and engages with individuals around our products and services
• Accurately enter data, patient, and test information for Ministry of Health requisitions
• Obtain quality blood samples and other specimens from patients, using skillful venipuncture techniques, performed in keeping with Dynacare's mission and values
• Sort and steer specimens, perform ECGs, Holter Hookups, paternity, urine, drug and breath alcohol collections
• Ensure specimens and supporting documentation are completed as required in SOPs and ready for data entry and transportation to the laboratory, following established protocols for the handling of suitable and unsuitable samples
• Ensure all confidential information is maintained in a secure fashion. Contribute to meeting the departmental/corporate quality metrics, regulatory compliance and quality indicators

What YOU bring to the role:

• You have completed Secondary School and a Laboratory Assistant training program or a Medical Lab Assistance course with specialized training in phlebotomy
• You are customer-focused with a genuine care for patient’s health
• Demonstrate skill in phlebotomy, with the ability to manage anxious patients through the sample obtaining process in a pleasant, calming and reassuring manner
• Prioritize and self-manage within a deadline-oriented environment
• Be extremely detail oriented
• Proficiency in English, both written and verbal, at a level that enables you to communicate instructions, clearly and understandably, to patients

Working Conditions

• Medical laboratory environment
• May be required to lift a maximum of 30 pounds
• Repetitive movements with frequent computer use
• At times might require frequent standing, sitting, bending, etc.

Pay rate: $21.00-$24.75 per hour

The hiring pay range has been established; however, the final pay offer will be determined by taking into consideration various factors including but not limited to, level of experience and education requirements.
