Downtown Eastside Women's Centre (DEWC) in Vancouver, BC, is seeking a Kitchen Supervisor for a temporary full-time role. The successful candidate will oversee the Kitchen program, supervise staff and volunteers, and ensure services comply with funding contracts and the centre's mission.

The role requires at least 2 years of supervisory experience, knowledge of gender-based violence, trauma-informed care, and the ability to thrive in a high-demand setting.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years supervisory experience or similar leadership role.
• Knowledge of issues affecting women in the DTES, including trauma-informed care.
• Ability to work in a busy, crisis-driven environment with competing demands.
• Strong organizational, administrative, record-keeping, scheduling and problem-solving skills.
• Will obtain or hold First Aid Certification, Food Safe and NVCI.

Responsibilities

• Oversee Kitchen program planning, scheduling and supervision.
• Direct Kitchen program staff and volunteers and address issues.
• Ensure services meet funding contracts and DEWC mission.
• Handle human resources matters in absence of Program Manager.
• Collaborate with staff to ensure smooth operation of the Kitchen program.

About DEWC

The Downtown Eastside Women’s Centre (DEWC) exists to support and empower women and children, living in extreme poverty in the Downtown Eastside of Vancouver, who are particularly vulnerable to violence, exploitation, injustice and injury. Through low barrier Drop-In Centers and Emergency Shelters, DEWC provides basic need services, programs, and specialized supports to over 1000 women and children daily to help them survive the conditions that surround them. The Opportunity

The Kitchen Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the Kitchen program through effectively planning, coordinating, scheduling, supervising, and directing the Kitchen program employees. She will ensure that food services meet the funding contract requirements as well as the philosophy, mission and mandate of the Downtown Eastside Women's Centre. The Kitchen Supervisor, under the direction of the Kitchen Manager, is responsible for a range of human resources matters including acting in the absence of the Program Manager handling emergent and routine issues. She will work collaboratively with DEWC staff, and volunteers to ensure the smooth operation of the program.

About You

• You have a minimum of 2 years related experience in a supervisory position, preferable within a unionized environment
• You will promote and articulate the mission, mandate, philosophy, and values of DEWC
• You are knowledgeable of the issues impacting women in the dtes, including gender-based violence, mental health, homelessness, and addictions with an understanding of trauma-informed care responses
• You have the ability to both work and support staff, within a busy, chaotic, crises driven environment where there are multiple demands and prioritize
• You have efficient organizational and administrative skills including record keeping, scheduling, and problem-solving abilities
• You have or will obtain a First Aid Certification, Food Safe, and NVCI

Week 1: Monday to Thursday (10am - 6pm)

Week 2: Sunday to Thursday (9:30am -6pm)

• Excluded position: hourly rate $34.97 - $38.25 depending on experience
