Job summary

The Salvation Army TSA is seeking a Kettle Campaign Coordinator in Sydney, Nova Scotia for a short-term contract. You will oversee multiple kettle locations in malls and stores, ensure shifts are filled, and supervise volunteers to fundraise in a secure and ethical manner.

Ideal candidates bring 1 year of related experience or strong customer service, a valid driver’s license with a reliable vehicle, and the ability to work in varying weather.

Qualifications

  • Some high school coursework; completion of high school is an asset.
  • One year of related experience or working in customer service.
  • Money handling experience is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Attend a day of training/orientation on The Salvation Army and the Christmas Kettle Campaign.
  • Provide support in getting Kettles to zone locations prior to volunteer arrival at Campaign onset.
  • Ensure all Kettle shifts are filled and Kettles are delivered to secure location before the start of Kettles.
  • Communicate daily issues and supply deficiencies to City/Assistant Coordinator.
  • Orient and remind volunteers on proper Kettle handling and duties as required.
  • Supervise, support and assign (as required) Kettle Volunteers throughout the Campaign.
  • Participate in the recruitment of new volunteers.
  • Visit locations during shift changes and intermittently.
  • Communicate daily with parties involved.
  • Ensure timesheets and mileage reports are submitted accurately and timely (weekly basis).
  • Remain at the Kettle for the full shift (until relieved), ensuring security of donations received.
  • Respond to questions/queries from potential donors regarding SA ministries and programs.
  • Perform other work-related duties as assigned.

Job Description: POSITION PURPOSE SUMMARY:

The Salvation Army Christmas Kettle Campaign is part of a century old tradition to contribute towards building strong communities by helping TSA to give hope to other. Kettle Coordinator position is a short-term contract position. The incumbent is responsible for oversight of several Christmas Kettle locations in a given geographical zone area. Zone locations include shopping malls, grocery stores and retail outlets.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

FINANCIAL AND MATERIAL MANAGEMENT:
  • Collect donations and petite cash and ensure donations are always kept secure.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • This is a temporary full time position
  • Work environment is typically in malls/stores
  • Standing for long periods will be required and exposure to cold weather
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
  • Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Alternative combination of education and Experience may be considered.
  • Education, Qualifications and Certifications: Some high school coursework, completion of high school is an asset
  • Experience: One year of related experience or working in customer service
  • Money handling experience is an asset
  • Related experience is an asset
Skills and Capabilities
  • Valid driver’s license and a reliable vehicle required

  • Able to lift 9 to 12 kgs (20-25 lbs)
  • Strong customer service skills; enjoy liaising and working with people of all ages and abilities
  • Willingness to be flexible and work well under pressure with daily timelines and changing priorities
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality in the handling of donor, volunteer, and organizational information
  • Ability and willingness to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion.
Compensation:

The target hiring range for this position is $16.50 to $19.89 with a maximum of $23.86. Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role. The Salvation Army will provide reasonable accommodation upon request.
