Your work environment at EXP

EXP is seeking an Intermediate Structural Engineer to join our Central Canada Buildings group. This position is based in our Ottawa office, with the possibility of hybrid work arrangements, combining time at home and in the office. The role involves working closely with our Structural team from the Markham office. The primary focus is to assist our design team with structural design for residential, commercial, industrial, and institutional projects.

A day at EXP includes:

• Assist with design of steel, concrete, timber, and masonry structures
• Analyze existing structures for load changes or alterations, and design reinforcements as needed
• Prepare design sketches for drafting, and assist with structural drawings and specifications
• Collaborate with senior and junior engineers
• Participate in design meetings with owners, architects, and consultants
• Attend construction site meetings
• Conduct site visits during construction to review work compliance
• Build and maintain strong client and stakeholder relationships
• Assist in preparing proposals and bids for new projects

Ideal candidate’s experience includes:

• Degree in Structural Engineering from a recognized university
• P.Eng. license
• 5-10 years’ experience in structural analysis and design
• Knowledge of NBCC, CSA standards
• Field experience on construction sites, reviewing work for compliance, and writing reports
• Experience with Etabs, SAFE, SAP, and similar software
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Proven ability to build and maintain client relationships
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Strong work ethic, responsibility, and dedication to client service and technical excellence
• Effective communication skills and adaptability
• Strategic thinking skills
• Valid driver’s license is an asset
