Junior Remediation Environmental Scientist - Edmonton, AB

At Jacobs, we're challenging today to reinvent tomorrow by solving the world's most critical problems for thriving cities, resilient environments, mission-critical outcomes, operational advancement, scientific discovery and cutting-edge manufacturing, turning abstract ideas into realities that transform the world for good.

Your impact

When it comes to environmental consulting, we’re focused on cleaning up our communities today to improve tomorrow. We’re seeking a junior geologist, geoscientist or environmental scientist, to support field investigations for industrial and government clients. You’ll apply your technical experience in environmental characterization and remediation to plan and execute tasks while championing safety and quality.

The preferred candidate will be based out of our Edmonton office or client field office on a hybrid work schedule. You’ll aid in the planning and execution of field investigation activities, environmental sample collection (such as soil, sediment, groundwater, surface water, and soil vapour), air monitoring, interpretation of data, and preparation of technical reports. You’ll be supported by a diverse group of industry leading technical experts available through our multiple communities of practice. You’ll drive innovation and promote the use of digital tools and electronic data capture. You’ll build strong relationships with our clients and work with client account managers to position and win new work. You’ll demonstrate continuous alignment to Jacobs core values to achieve our clients’ goals. This position is an anticipated 80% of travel for fieldwork and 20% office work. A successful offer will be full-time or a 12-month contract depending on workload and/or skillset. Contracts have the potential of extension or conversion to full-time.

Bring your commitment to safety and innovation, motivation to work well independently, and your ability to work in a team, and we’ll help grow what drives you.

We value collaboration and believe that in-person interactions are crucial for both our culture and client delivery. We empower employees with our hybrid working policy, allowing them to split their work week between Jacobs offices/projects and remote locations enabling them to deliver their best work.

Here's what you'll need

  • A relevant degree (e.g. geology, environmental science) or diploma (e.g. environmental monitoring and assessment) from an accredited institution
  • 2 - 5 years of experience related to environmental site assessments & characterization.
  • Practical work experience supporting environmental investigations including soil logging, monitoring well installation, groundwater and soil sampling, and soil vapour sampling at contaminated sites.
  • Awareness of environmental regulation and guidelines.
  • Ability to demonstrate a strong record in health and safety, including experience with behavior-based health & safety programs.
  • Must hold valid Alberta driver’s license and clean driver’s abstract.
  • Curiosity to find better solutions, embrace digital solutions and drive innovation towards a more sustainable world.

Ideally, you’ll also have:

  • Experience using environmental software in a consulting/industrial environment, including demonstrated experience with electronic data capture of field data.
  • Physical ability to work safely and be comfortable traversing uneven terrain.
