Job summary

AtkinsRéalis is seeking a Junior Mechanical CAD Designer to support nuclear projects in Ontario. You will prepare 2D/3D CAD documents and create precise models using AutoCAD, MicroStation, Solid Edge and SolidWorks, applying MBD where appropriate.

Responsibilities include following QA programs, applying codes and standards, coordinating with the design team, and maintaining CAD configuration management. Hybrid work options may apply as per policy.

Qualifications

• College diploma in mechanical design or equivalent with at least 2 years of drafting experience.
• Basic knowledge of 2D and 3D CAD applications, with AutoCAD or MicroStation and SolidWorks experience.
• Familiar with ASME Y14.5 GD&T and welding principles.
• Understanding of mechanical design concepts and manufacturing processes.
• Ability to incorporate marked-up drawings into CAD files.

• Follow client file management for document storage.

• Revise drawings/models from instructions and marked-up schematics.
• Maintain CAD file configuration and storage per procedure.
• Prepare drawings/models of minimal complexity; implement changes with guidance.

Overview

CANDU Energy Inc./AtkinsRéalis Nuclear Inc. is actively seeking qualified Junior Mechanical Machine Cad Designer to support engineering roles for nuclear projects in major areas, such as, new build in the province of Ontario, international new builds, refurbishment, and continuous plant operation support modifications for nuclear power plants.

Your role

This position requires working on fast paced technically complex projects in the nuclear industries. Typical duties and essential functions will include but not be limited to the preparation, design, modification, coordination, and/or review of the following:

• Prepare electronic documents in in AutoCAD, Microstation, Solid Edge, Solid Works and other relevant CAD tools.
• Create precise 3D models for design and visualization, using Model-Based Definition (MBD) to define all product specifications.
• Follow client driven file management system for document storage.
• Prepare engineering deliverables for both nuclear and conventional systems in accordance with AtkinsRéalis Nuclear Inc. / Candu Energy Quality Assurance Programs and project requirements.
• Apply relevant Codes & Standards and regulatory requirements and coordinate with design team to ensure the compliances.
• Interface with Engineering teams, throughout the lifecycle of the design project (i.e., from preliminary and conceptual engineering to detailed design, implementation and close-out) to provide practical and effective solutions as per requirements.
• Revise existing drawings/3D models (relative to the discipline) from fairly detailed verbal or written instructions, and/or marked up drawings.
• Continue to learn the fundamentals of CAD techniques through job experience, coaching and training in order to reach a higher competency level.
• Ensure CAD file configuration management and storage are as per procedure.
• Prepare drawings/3D models (relative to the discipline) of minimal complexity. As requested, implement any necessary design changes, calculations and materials selection - with assistance from more senior staff.
• Perform other related duties as required.

About you

• College diploma or equivalent work experience with a minimum of 2 years in mechanical design and drafting.
• Individuals are expected to have some basic academic knowledge of 2D and 3D CAD applications. Working knowledge in AutoCAD or MicroStation and SolidWorks.
• ASME Code knowledge considered an asset.
• Familiar with machine design, GD&T (including ASME Y14.5 standards, symbol interpretation, and tolerance analysis), and welding principles (MIG, TIG, arc welding, and welding symbol representation).
• Basic understanding of mechanical design principles. Understanding manufacturing processes (machining, welding, and additive manufacturing) and their influence on design decisions.
• Ability to take marked up engineering drawings and incorporates changes into AutoCAD files.
• Must be "Team" oriented with a demonstrated ability to work well with other and promote a positive work environment.
• Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work with staff in a team environment as well as independently.
