Job summary

DWF seeks a Junior Litigation Associate (2-4 years’ call) to join our Calgary office. You will develop advocacy skills, handle diverse insurance defence and civil matters, and work with seasoned litigators in a collaborative team environment.

You will gain mentorship, take on increasing responsibility, and contribute to high-profile matters while building a rewarding litigation practice in Canada’s competitive market.

Qualifications

  • 2-4 years of post-call civil litigation experience.
  • Insurance defence litigation experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with the Alberta Rules of Court and litigation procedures.
  • Strong legal research, drafting, and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Good organizational and time management skills.
  • Collaborative mindset with a focus on exceptional client service.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and contribute to a variety of insurance defence and civil litigation matters.
  • Draft pleadings, briefs, applications, opinions and other litigation materials.
  • Conduct legal research and provide strategic recommendations.
  • Assist with, and as experience permits, conduct questionings, mediations, and chambers applications.
  • Contribute to the strategic management of complex and high-profile matters.
  • Deliver exceptional client service through effective communication and file management.
  • Participate in professional development and business development activities that support practice growth.

  • 2-4 years of post‑call civil litigation experience
  • Experience in insurance defence litigation is preferred; candidates with strong civil litigation experience from other practice areas are encouraged to apply
