The Role

BGC seeks a junior geotechnical engineer passionate about expanding their knowledge in geotechnical testing at our advanced soil and rock testing facility in Fredericton, NB.

The laboratory specializes in strength, compressibility, and permeability testing of soil, and strength testing of rock, equipped with cyclic dynamic simple shear, servo-controlled fully automated triaxial, and automated oedometer systems. The junior engineer will assist intermediate engineers and learn foundational rock mechanics.

Responsibilities
  1. Perform advanced geotechnical tests on rock specimens to assess physical and mechanical properties.
  2. Analyze and interpret data to support projects and research.
  3. Support laboratory testing programs alongside senior and intermediate engineers.
  4. Prepare laboratory test reports.
  5. Follow safety and quality procedures.
  6. Train and mentor laboratory staff and visitors.
Minimum Requirements
  1. Bachelor’s degree in applied science or engineering, preferably with a focus on rock mechanics.
  2. Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  3. Interest in laboratory work and advanced rock testing.
