The Role

BGC is seeking a junior geotechnical engineer passionate about expanding their knowledge of geotechnical testing at our advanced soil and rock testing facility in Fredericton, New Brunswick. Our state-of-the-art laboratory specializes in strength, compressibility, and permeability testing of soil, as well as strength testing of rock, using equipment like cyclic dynamic simple shear, servo-controlled fully automated triaxial, and automated oedometer systems. The junior engineer will support intermediate engineers with laboratory testing and learn foundational soil mechanics.

Responsibilities

  1. Support advanced geotechnical testing of soil.
  2. Perform index testing of soil.
  3. Collaborate with senior and intermediate engineers to support laboratory testing programs with varying deadlines.
  4. Prepare laboratory test reports.
  5. Follow lab procedures for safety and quality.
  6. Train and mentor laboratory staff and visitors.

Required Education, Experience & Competencies

  1. Bachelor’s degree in applied science or engineering; focus in soil mechanics preferred.
  2. Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
  3. Desire to work in a lab and learn advanced soils testing.
