Job summary

AtkinsRéalis in Canada is seeking a junior/intern I&C engineer to support nuclear projects under supervision of a professional engineer. You will help define system requirements, perform conceptual and detailed I&C design tasks, and prepare design documentation and calculations.

Working with a multidisciplinary team, you’ll interface with clients and suppliers, progress through field walk-downs, and contribute to QA and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

• Honours degree in engineering from a recognized university.
• Eligible to be registered as a Professional Engineer in Ontario.
• Related work experience in I&C engineering for nuclear or other heavy industrial environments is an asset.
• Willing to become a Nuclear Energy Worker (NEW).
• Strong communication and technical writing skills.
• Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team environment.

Job Description Overview

This position is for a junior or entry level person who is self‑motivated and willing to develop his/her career with experience in nuclear field. The candidate shall be able to follow the instructions from a qualified professional engineer to complete the assigned I&C related scopes or tasks and prepare necessary engineering design documentation as required.

Your role

• - Perform engineering work following SNC-Lavalin/Candu Energy procedures and QA programs, and applicable codes, standards, and regulatory requirements.
• - Coordinate and interface with client(s), suppliers, stakeholders and other design disciplines to execute assigned engineering work.
• - Perform conceptual and/or detailed design of CANDU instrumentation and control systems and modifications thereof, including definition of system functional and performance requirements and control algorithms, definition of control logic and wiring arrangements, control parameters, setpoints, instrument ranges and environmental qualification and seismic qualification.
• - Perform specification, sizing, and selection for various types of I&C components, and produce component related documentation including assessment documents, setpoint calculations, error analyses, technical specifications, etc.
• - Update and/or prepare I&C engineering design documents including design requirements, design description, elementary diagrams, functional specifications, etc., together with the supporting analysis/assessment documents and other design basis documents.
• - Provide input to the drawing office for the preparation of various I&C related engineering drawings such as general arrangement drawings, instrument loop diagrams, wiring and connection diagrams, bills of materials, etc.
• - Provide or update wiring and technical design input to computerized wiring programs.
• - Interface with various engineering disciplines, suppliers, and other areas of the company.
• - Assist in providing responses to technical enquiries from design review teams and regulatory agencies.
• - Participate in review of interfacing discipline’s documentation.
• - Prepare requisitions or Engineering Quotation Requests (EQR) for equipment and materials to support procurement.
• - Prepare or assist preparation of scope of work and input to bid proposals.
• - Perform field walk‑downs during different design phases and prepare Walkdown reports as required.
• - Assist field construction and execution activities, such as: field changes, design revisions, commissioning, AFS, closeout, etc.
• - Complete the assigned scopes or tasks within given budget and schedule, and in good quality.
• - Deliver technical presentations accurately and effectively.

About you

Relevant Honours degree in a relevant field of engineering from a university of recognized standing. Eligible to be registered as a Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario. Related work experience in I&C engineering for either in the nuclear industry or other heavy industrial environment such as: mining, oil & gas, power, etc is considered an asset. Previous experience at an operating nuclear power station or a similar installation not required, but would be an asset. Demonstrate good technical skills and problem‑solving capabilities and be able to seek practical solutions to engineering problems. Willing to become a Nuclear Energy Worker (NEW). Knowledge of OPG and/or BP Engineering Change Control (ECC) process, standards and procedures is considered an asset. Shall have excellent communication and technical writing skills and good ability to interact and communicate (both verbal and in writing) professionally with colleagues, clients and contractors. Possess good interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a multidisciplinary team environment.
