Job summary

PCL Construction Management Inc. in Calgary, Alberta seeks a Junior Estimator to support bids, takeoffs and pricing for infrastructure projects. You will work with estimators, subtrades and project teams to prepare accurate estimates and improve bid outcomes.

Ideal candidates have a related degree or diploma and some construction exposure, with comfort using takeoff systems and estimating software. This role offers growth within a people-focused, employee-owned firm.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or diploma in related discipline or trade experience or equivalent.
• Some relevant experience in a construction environment is preferred.
• Basic knowledge of the construction industry and key principles involved in bid preparation.
• Understands and uses takeoff systems.
• Ability to converse with and solicit trades and comfortable with cold-calling.
• Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with interested parties including the ability to solicit subtrade partners and suppliers.
• Working knowledge of estimating software and Microsoft Office Suite, with a strong aptitude for adopting new technology.

Responsibilities

• Supports estimators on preparing bids and proposals.
• Completes quantity, material, and labor takeoffs from project documents.
• Applies material unit prices or allowances and base labor productivities to the estimate.
• Assists with bid document control and documenting, organizing, and archiving all information relating to the estimate for successful transfer to the project team.
• Supports lead bid runner with bid-day assignments.
• Solicits competitive pricing from subtrade partners and suppliers for pursuit.
• Develops and maintains strong relationships with all interested parties including lead estimator, lead bid runner, subtrade partners and suppliers.
