Job summary

PCL Construction Management Inc. in Calgary, Alberta, is hiring a Junior Estimator to support bid preparation for infrastructure projects. You will complete takeoffs, apply pricing, and help manage bid documentation and communications with subs and suppliers.

The role emphasizes relationship-building with trades, use of estimating software, and collaboration with the project team. A related degree or diploma is required, and prior construction exposure is preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or diploma in related discipline or trade experience or equivalent.
• Some relevant experience in a construction environment is preferred.
• Basic knowledge of the construction industry and bid preparation principles.
• Understands and uses takeoff systems.
• Ability to converse with and solicit trades and comfortable with cold-calling.
• Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with interested parties including the ability to solicit subtrade partners and suppliers.
• Working knowledge of estimating software and Microsoft Office Suite, with a strong aptitude for adopting new technology.

Responsibilities

• Supports estimators on preparing bids and proposals.
• Completes quantity, material, and labor takeoffs from project documents.
• Applies material unit prices or allowances and base labor productivities to the estimate.
• Assists with bid document control and documenting, organizing, and archiving all information relating to the estimate for successful transfer to the project team.
• Supports lead bid runner with bid-day assignments.
• Solicits competitive pricing from subtrade partners and suppliers for pursuit.
• Develops and maintains strong relationships with all interested parties including lead estimator, lead bid runner, subtrade partners and suppliers.
