Job summary

Jobtailor in Grande Prairie, AB is seeking an Environmental Field Technician to assist with site assessments, monitoring, and reporting across Western Canada.

You will work under senior staff, collect and interpret field data, prepare reports and permit documentation, and support clients and regulatory compliance on remote sites.

Qualifications

• University degree or diploma in environmental science, biology, agrology, or a related field.
• 0–2 years of experience in environmental consulting or fieldwork; internships or volunteer experience welcome.
• Strong interest in field-based work and hands-on environmental assessments.
• Ability to work in remote and challenging field conditions.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to document and report on field observations.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist with environmental site assessments, including Phase 1 and Phase 2 ESAs and other field tasks.
• Perform environmental monitoring and inspection.
• Conduct environmental suitability scouting for pipeline and wellsite siting.
• Assist senior team members with data collection, analysis, and interpretation.
• Help prepare field reports and scientific documentation.
• Support preparation and filing of environmental permit applications.
• Engage with clients and stakeholders as directed by senior staff.
• Travel to sites across Western Canada.

Job description

• Assist with environmental site assessments, including Pre-Construction Site Assessments, Soil & Vegetation Assessments, Stream & Wetland Assessments, Avian & Wildlife Surveys, Schedule A & Schedule B assessments, Phase 1 and Phase 2 Environmental Site Assessments, and Preliminary Site Investigations
• Perform environmental monitoring and inspection
• Conduct environmental suitability scouting for pipeline and access routing, and wellsite/facility siting
• Assist senior team members with data collection, analysis, and interpretation
• Help prepare field reports and scientific documentation
• Support preparation and filing of environmental permit applications
• Engage with clients and stakeholders as directed by senior staff
• Maintain accurate records of field activities and observations
• Maintain an understanding of British Columbia and Alberta environmental regulations
• Apply understanding of the oil and gas market and regulatory framework
• Support development of technical reports, including data interpretation and site assessments
• Work under senior professionals’ guidance to ensure compliance with environmental, health, and safety standards
• Travel to sites across Western Canada

Requirements

• University degree or diploma in environmental science, biology, agrology, or a related field
• 0–2 years of experience in environmental consulting or fieldwork; internships or volunteer experience welcome

• Ability to work in remote and challenging field conditions
• Strong attention to detail and ability to document and report on field observations
• Basic understanding of environmental regulations in BC and Alberta is an asset, but not required
• Strong written and verbal communication skills

• Ability to perform frequent bending, kneeling, climbing, and repetitive manual tasks
• Ability to walk long distances over uneven terrain while carrying gear
• Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
• Ability to drive long distances and travel frequently to remote sites
• Ability to work in confined spaces and at heights as required by project
• Ability to wear required PPE, including respirators, for extended periods
• Ability to perform physically demanding work for extended hours
