Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science or related field; professional designation is an asset.
  • 5-10 years of environmental experience in oil/gas, pipelines, or energy.
  • Knowledge of environmental regulations and regulatory processes for pipeline operations.
  • Experience supporting emergency response and environmental incident management is a plus.
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license with satisfactory driving record.

Raise is currently hiring an Environmental Specialist on behalf of our client. They’re expanding their team to meet growing needs, making this a unique opportunity to work with an industry leader. Our Client, is a Liquids Pipelines Company operating with more than 4,000 kilometers of crude oil pipelines in North America providing low-risk, liquids transportation and storage business, safely moving oil between some of the world’s most critical markets

Description

The Environmental Specialist in this role you will provide environmental leadership and technical support for pipeline operations across Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba. The successful candidate will support environmental compliance, risk management, permitting, emergency response, and environmental programs while ensuring adherence to federal and provincial regulatory requirements.Working closely with operations, projects, regulators, contractors, and corporate stakeholders, the Environmental Specialist will deliver practical environmental solutions that support safe, reliable, and environmentally responsible pipeline operations.

Qualifications
  • Support environmental guidance on environmental avoidance, mitigation, and regulatory requirements for operations and projects.
  • Monitor and assess emerging environmental issues, legislative changes, and regulatory developments, and support business impact assessments.
  • Implement and support environmental programs, including:
    • Environmental Compliance Program
    • Right-of-Way (RoW) Clearing and Maintenance Programs
    • Facility Civil Maintenance Program
    • Post-Construction Restoration and Monitoring Programs
    • Vegetation Management and Reclamation Programs
  • Conduct environmental inspections, audits, compliance assessments, and field monitoring activities.
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate environmental risks and liabilities associated with pipeline operations and maintenance activities.
  • Prepare and submit environmental reports, regulatory applications, and permit documentation.
  • Support environmental due diligence activities for projects, asset development, and operational initiatives.
  • Maintain compliance with applicable environmental regulations related to air, water, waste, contaminated sites, wetlands, land use, and hazardous materials management.
  • Provide environmental expertise during emergency response activities, including spill response, incident investigations, regulatory reporting, and remediation planning.
  • Participate in emergency preparedness training, exercises, and on-call support for environmental incidents.
  • Collaborate with regulators, Indigenous communities, municipalities, contractors, consultants, and internal stakeholders to achieve environmental and business objectives.
  • Deliver environmental training and awareness initiatives to support compliance and continuous improvement.
  • Support environmental governance, compliance assurance, and strategic environmental initiatives across the business.
Requirements
  • 5-10 years of environmental experience in the oil and gas, pipeline, or energy industry.
  • Experience working with environmental management systems, permitting, compliance programs, and environmental risk management.
  • Experience supporting emergency response and environmental incident management is considered an asset.
  • Experience interacting with environmental regulators, including AER, CER, Alberta Environment and Protected Areas (AEPA), ECCC, and other provincial agencies.
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Strong knowledge of environmental regulations and regulatory processes applicable to pipeline operations.
  • Understanding of environmental compliance, reclamation, vegetation management, restoration monitoring, and environmental due diligence.
  • Ability to assess complex environmental issues and develop practical risk-based solutions.
  • Strong analytical, project management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with regulators, communities, contractors, and internal stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and collaborate effectively across business functions.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety, environmental stewardship, and continuous improvement.
  • Education and Certifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Planning, Natural Resource Management, Biology, or a related field; or Environmental Technology diploma with relevant industry experience.
  • Professional designation (e.g., P.Ag., P.Biol., EP®, RPBio, P.Eng.) is considered an asset.

  • Travel to operating facilities, rights-of-way, and project sites throughout the region.
  • Participation in emergency response activities, including after-hours and on-call support as required.
