Job Description:
Junior Environmental Engineer
Qatar, Doha
Parsons is looking for an amazingly talented Junior Environmental Engineer to join our team! In this role you will get to participate in various engineering tasks while developing your professional skills working under the experienced lead engineers.
What You Will Be Doing:
Assist in the preparation of EIA reports, including drafting specific sections (e.g., project description, baseline conditions, impact assessment) under supervision.
Gather baseline environmental data related to air quality, noise, water resources, soil, waste management, biodiversity, and socio-economic aspects through desktop studies, literature reviews, and database searches.
Assist in identifying relevant local, national, and international environmental legislation, standards, and guidelines applicable to specific projects.
Participate in and support environmental fieldwork activities, including site reconnaissance, environmental sampling (water, soil, air), noise monitoring, ecological surveys, and site inspections under the supervision of senior staff. Ensure proper documentation and chain-of-custody procedures.
Assist in organizing, processing, and analyzing collected environmental data using standard software (e.g., Excel, potentially basic GIS or modelling software). Help interpret results for impact assessment purposes.
Contribute to the preparation of technical memos, field reports, figures, maps, and presentations.
Ensure proper document management and version control for project files.
Assist in compiling documentation required for environmental permit applications.
Liaise effectively with internal team members to support project tasks. May assist in preparing materials for stakeholder consultations.
Adhere strictly to company and site-specific health and safety protocols, particularly during fieldwork.
Actively learn EIA methodologies, relevant environmental regulations, and software tools. Seek opportunities to enhance technical skills and knowledge related to environmental assessment in the infrastructure sector.
What Required Skills You Will Bring:
Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering (with environmental focus), or a closely related discipline.
0-3 years of relevant experience (strong internships or co-op experience will be considered).
Understanding of environmental and engineering principles (air, water, soil, waste, noise, ecology).
Familiarity with the concept and general stages of an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA).
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Arabic
Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
Strong organizational skills and ability to manage time effectively on multiple tasks.
Willingness and ability to undertake fieldwork, potentially in varying weather conditions, and travel to project sites as required.
Valid driver's license [if required for fieldwork].
What Desired Skills You Will Bring:
Master's degree in a relevant field.
Previous internship or work experience specifically related to EIAs or environmental consulting for infrastructure projects.
Basic knowledge of environmental modelling software (e.g., air dispersion, noise).
Familiarity with GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS).
Knowledge of local/regional environmental regulations and permitting processes [e.g., Qatar's environmental regulations]
