Reporting to the Team Lead, Drafting, the Junior Drafter will be responsible for the drafting of underground and overhead electrical distribution infrastructure (4kV – 25kV system voltages).Responsibilities:
- Setting up drafting and design environments per local standards.
- Reviewing local municipal and utility drafting standards to ensure specifications are met.
- Producing electrical and civil shallow utility design drawings in AutoCAD and/or MicroStation.
- Reference, overlay, scale, and align drawings from various project disciplines into a single base map (i.e., Civil, electrical, mechanical, landscape, etc.) in NAD83 or other coordinate systems.
- Review redline sketches, standard drawings, specifications, and other engineering data received from designers.
- Draft electrical and civil site drawings, details, profiles and cross-sections following rigid drafting standards.
- Interpreting and preparing survey data points files.
- Autonomously manage workload to control multiple tasks with a high degree of accuracy, while meeting deadlines.
- Understanding and applying standards while preparing drawings.
- Assist in the development of efficient drafting processes for quality and workload management.
- Conducting drafting reviews of drawing packages.
- Supporting the design team with their work when the workload requires.
- Taking charge to resolve any computer and network issues.
- Additional project support as required.
Qualifications:- Familiar with AutoCAD and MicroStation drafting software.
- Be adaptable and adhere to customer standards.
- Be familiar with electrical design concepts.
- Proficient English language skills, ability to develop strong business relationships and act professionally.
- Strong collaborative skills and willingness to liaise with other disciplines (Engineering, Construction, and Survey) to ensure drawings are accurate, compliant, and reliable.
- Strong communication skills – verbal and written.

- Class 5 driver’s license.
A few qualifications that would help you succeed:- Familiarity with drafting concepts is a must.
- Experience in working in an electric utility distribution design environment with education in electrical theory and civil construction.
- Previous experience drafting to ENMAX, ATCO, Fortis Alberta, TELUS, ROGERS, and City of Calgary Streetlighting standards.
- Previous design experience in utilities, lighting, traffic and signals, or building electrical systems.
- Familiarity with Canadian Electrical Code standards.
- 2+ years of experience in electrical engineering consulting is an asset.
