Job Description

SKILLS:

1. A working knowledge of common machine shop techniques.
2. Must have a thorough knowledge of drafting principles.
3. Must be proficient in AutoCAD and Solid Works.
4. Must be capable of designing tooling from sketches or verbal concepts.
5. Must be capable of working as part of a team.
6. An understanding of the use of pneumatics.
7. An understanding of the use of electrical devices (i.e. switches, load cells, LVDT’s, etc.).
8. Must be capable of taking direction.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Perform engineering calculations with respect to strength of materials, speeds, horsepower, temperature, pressure, force, etc. as related to machine and tool designs.
2. Analyze engineering drawings and specifications to determine shape, dimensions, hardness etc. in the development of equipment, processes and products.
3. Produce working drawings, detail drawings and bills of materials for equipment, sub-assemblies or product using AutoCAD and Solidworks.
4. Analyze designs and systems for compliance to applicable standards (i.e. OSHA, CE or customer specific).
5. Review drawings for accuracy, material selection, proper machining techniques, finishes, hardness, etc.
6. Liaise with customers and in-house technical and engineering staff.
7. Liaise with vendors for technical information and specifications.
8. Communicate all requested design changes to the Team Lead or Project Lead.
9. Adhere to all health and safety rules and procedures.
10. Adhere to all ISO procedures pertaining to the job responsibilities.
11. Responsible for communicating progress on tasks to supervising designer.
12. Formalize and update drawing documentation.
13. Liaise with fabricators, machinists, toolmaker and electricians in the completion of equipment and resolving problems.
14. May periodically assist the Engineering Administrative Assistant in preparing customer documentation.

Qualifications

Education:

1. A post secondary diploma or degree in mechanical design, mechanical engineering or equivalent.

*This role is targeting New Graduates.

Experience:

1. Preferably one or two Co-op terms in Mechanical design/drafting.
