Job summary

Socket.dev in Calgary, Alberta, is seeking a Junior Accounting Analyst to support financial reporting and day-to-day accounting tasks. You will help prepare balance sheets, income statements and other reports in alignment with US GAAP.

The role requires at least two years of accounting/finance experience, proficiency in QuickBooks and Microsoft Office, and strong organizational skills. You will collaborate with auditors, tax professionals and operations teams to improve accuracy and efficiency.

Qualifications

  • At least two years of accounting/finance experience.
  • Knowledgeable of US GAAP and accounting principles.

  • Ability to identify opportunities for cost savings/profit enhancement and efficiency improvements.
  • Strong initiative and ability to analyze, question and summarize data for decision making.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and evaluate accounting records, financial statements, and other financial reports to assess accuracy, completeness, and adherence to US GAAP requirements.
  • Prepare, maintain and analyze acquisition and loan documents, including key terms that have financial effects.
  • Maintain loan amortization and tax schedules for multiple investment properties.
  • Complete monthly billing and collections activities for lendees and tenants.
  • Analyzes daily, month-end and year-end activity of income statement and balance sheet accounts to ensure correct financial information through the general ledger.
  • Perform month-end close activities for individual investments, as well as investments that roll into other entities, including journal entry preparation and account reconciliations.
  • Proactively presents recommendations and/or modifications to management.
  • Manage cash flows of multiple entities.
  • Liaise with external auditors, tax preparers, and investors to communicate information in a timely and clear manner.
  • Passion for working in high paced environment with exposure to operational business leaders.
  • Follows internal processes and procedures to maintain proper records.

Junior Accounting Analyst
Summary/Overview

Applies principles of accounting to analyze financial information and prepare financial reports. Compiles and analyzes financial information to prepare and document business transactions and record as appropriate. Analyzes financial information detailing assets, liabilities, and capital, and prepares balance sheets, income statements, and other reports to summarize current and projected company financial position.
