Job summary

JRoss Recruiters in Calgary, Alberta, seeks an entry‑level accounting professional to join a collaborative finance team. You will handle accounting support, invoicing, reconciliations, reporting, and participate in general accounting activities.

With 1–2 years of accounting experience, you will build skills in AR/AP, Excel reporting, and systems like Business Central or QuickBooks Online while pursuing CPA development. This role offers growth and learning within a supportive team.

Qualifications

  • 1–2 years accounting experience, including AR/AP or general accounting functions.
  • Strong understanding of basic accounting principles.
  • Excellent Excel skills; able to analyze data and create reports.
  • Experience with accounting systems; Business Central preferred; QuickBooks Online beneficial.
  • Accounting education or coursework preferred.
  • CPA designation not required; interested in pursuing CPA.

Job description

  • Accounting Support: Payable, reconciliations, reporting, and general accounting activities.
  • Reporting & Analysis: Assist with financial reporting, analyze data, identify discrepancies, and help provide insights to support business decisions.
  • Process Improvement: Participate in special projects and identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and efficiencies.
  • Systems Support: Work within accounting systems and contribute to enhancing processes and reporting capabilities.
  • Independent Execution: Take ownership of assigned responsibilities while collaborating with the broader finance team.
  • Department Collaboration: Partner with team members across the finance department to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and timely completion of tasks.
  • Continuous Learning: Build accounting knowledge, expand technical skills, and take on increasing responsibility over time.
Requirements

Qualifications & Experience

  • 1–2 years of accounting experience, ideally with exposure to accounts receivable, accounts payable, or general accounting functions.
  • Strong understanding of basic accounting principles.
  • Excellent Excel skills with the ability to analyze data and create reports. Experience in AR and AP.
  • Experience working with accounting systems; Business Central experience would be considered a strong asset, while QuickBooks Online experience would also be beneficial.
  • Accounting education or coursework is preferred.
  • CPA designation is not required; however, the ideal candidate will be interested in pursuing the CPA program and continuing their professional development.
  • Strong analytical skills with a natural curiosity for investigating numbers and identifying discrepancies.
  • Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy and quality.
  • Ability to work independently and manage priorities effectively.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a willingness to learn new systems and processes.
  • Comfortable working with data, reporting, and process improvements.
