Job description

ABOUT US

At Talbot & Associates (T&A), we’re not your typical accounting firm and we’re proud of that. Founded right here in Manitoba in 1991, we’ve grown into a team of more than 90 talented people who genuinely care about their clients, their communities, and one another. We work hard, share what we know, celebrate our successes, and make time to have some fun along the way. Our goal is simple: to help our clients and team members live their dreams. For our employees, that might mean earning their CPA designation, developing a new specialization, taking the next step in their career, or having the flexibility to enjoy life outside of work.

We’re looking for a motivated Junior Accountant to join our team in a full-time, permanent position based at our Selkirk office. This is a great opportunity for a recent graduate or someone with foundational accounting knowledge who is ready to begin building a meaningful career in public practice. You’ll gain hands-on experience, work closely with knowledgeable team members, and build your technical skills in an environment where questions are welcomed and learning is part of the job.

Whether you’re planning to pursue your CPA designation or looking for an opportunity to develop practical accounting experience, this role will give you a strong foundation and a team that wants to see you succeed.

WHAT WE OFFER

We believe great work should be recognized and rewarded. As a member of the T&A team, you can look forward to:

  • Hourly pay for every hour worked, including during busy seasons, with the option to have additional hours paid out or banked for future time off.
  • Flexible health spending coverage that can be used toward eligible health expenses, with the option to direct unused funds into a deferred profit‑sharing plan.
  • Comprehensive group benefits, including life insurance, dependent life insurance, accidental death and dismemberment (AD&D) insurance, and long‑term (LTD) disability coverage.
  • Retirement and savings options, including a group retirement savings plan (GRSP) and group tax‑free savings account (GTFSA).
  • Real opportunities to grow, supported by tuition and course reimbursements, mentorship, practical experience, and established career paths.
  • A voice within the firm, where your ideas are welcomed and your contributions can make a genuine difference.
  • Flexibility when life happens and opportunities to discuss your compensation as you grow, based on your development, performance, and contributions.
  • A culture built on trust, support, and connection, where we help each other, celebrate wins, and enjoy team and social events throughout the year.
WHO YOU ARE

You don’t need to know everything on your first day. We’re looking for someone who is eager to learn, takes pride in their work, and brings a positive approach to the team. You may be a great fit if you are:

  • Warm, approachable, and motivated to do your best work.
  • Organized and able to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Detail-oriented, dependable, and committed to producing accurate work.
  • Comfortable asking questions, receiving feedback, and learning from others.
  • A collaborative team member who enjoys building positive relationships with clients and colleagues.
  • Professional, responsive, and able to use good judgment.
  • Respectful of privacy and able to handle confidential information with care, discretion, and integrity.
  • Resourceful and comfortable adjusting as priorities and responsibilities change.
WHAT YOU’LL BRING
  • Foundational knowledge of accounting principles gained through education or related experience.
  • Strong organizational, time‑management, and multitasking skills.
  • The ability to prioritize your work and complete tasks with increasing independence.
  • Good judgment, reasoning, and problem‑solving abilities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Confidence using computers and learning new programs and technology.
  • A willingness to receive feedback and continue developing your skills.
WHAT YOU’LL DO

As a Junior Accountant, you’ll work alongside experienced professionals and gain exposure to a variety of accounting and tax services. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Preparing compilation engagements, including reconciling accounts, posting journal entries, and organizing supporting documentation.
  • Preparing sales tax returns, including GST and PST.
  • Assisting with the preparation of corporate income tax returns (T2s).
  • Preparing personal income tax returns (T1s) during personal tax season in March and April.
  • Preparing and reviewing bookkeeping, as required.
  • Maintaining timely and professional communication with clients and colleagues.
  • Building positive, trusted relationships with the people you work with.
  • Developing your knowledge of accounting standards, tax requirements, technology, and industry practices.
  • Taking on other responsibilities related to the position as your knowledge and experience grow.
GROW WITH US

At T&A, we want our team members to build careers that feel meaningful. You’ll have access to a wide range of knowledge and experience, opportunities to learn from people across the firm, and encouragement to explore areas of accounting that interest you. We support established career paths while also making room for team members to develop new skills and pursue specializations that continue moving our firm forward.
