Working alongside its partners in law enforcement, family justice, health, the judiciary, criminal justice system, and other stakeholders, the ministry has a direct or shared responsibility in all elements of the justice system in Alberta.
The Court of Appeal of Alberta sits in both Edmonton and Calgary and hears criminal appeals from the Provincial Court and both criminal and civil appeals from the Court of Queen's Bench. It also hears appeals from administrative and board tribunals and reviews records to determine whether errors of law or fact were made in a decision.
The Court of Appeal of Alberta is looking for a motivated, hardworking, and reliable individual to join their team as a Judicial Clerk or Senior Judicial Clerk!
As a Judicial Clerk or Senior Judicial Clerk, you will represent the administration of the Courts in a professional manner that reflects the fair and equitable delivery of justice in Alberta. You will be responsible for the administrative processes in the Registry office and within the courtroom, as well as assisting the public and legal community at the counter. The shifting priorities between the courtroom and assisting the public and lawyers in the office makes this a fast-paced and dynamic role.
Your role involves, but is not limited to, the following:
To be successful in this role, you should embrace change, be decisive, and adaptable to changing environments. As a frontline representative of the Court of Appeal, you will anticipate and understand the needs of clients, providing excellent customer service to Albertans.
As the ideal candidate, you will bring:
Judicial Clerk: High School diploma and at least six (6) months of related experience.
Senior Judicial Clerk: High School diploma and two (2) years of related experience, including eighteen (18) months of directly related experience as a Judicial Clerk and the successful completion of the departmental para-legal program.
*Please note that only candidates with Judicial Clerk experience may be considered at the higher classification level and salary of a Senior Judicial Clerk.
Equivalency: Related experience or education considered on the basis of one year of experience for one year of education or one year of education for one year of experience.

This is for one full-time, permanent position located in Calgary at the TC Energy Tower. The hours of work for this position are Monday to Friday, 8:15 AM - 4:30 PM, 36.25 hours a week. This position involves extensive keyboarding and extended periods of sitting and/or standing. This position may be required to work overtime with very little notice.
Final candidates will be required to undergo a security screening.
Any costs associated with obtaining the required documents/checks as noted or interview travel expenses will be the responsibility of the candidate. Out-of-province applicants can obtain the required documents/checks from the province they currently reside in.
