Hatch in Thunder Bay, Ontario, is seeking a Junior/Intermediate Field Surveyor to contribute to highway and roadway projects across Northwestern Ontario. Based in Thunder Bay, you will participate in surveying, CAD work, and field inspections while learning from senior staff.

You will support GPS surveys, data collection, and topographic cross-sections, with opportunities to grow in geomatics and transportation design within Hatch's Northern Ontario practice.

Qualifications

  • Technology diploma or equivalent in a related field.
  • C.E.T or Geomatics Technologist with 3+ years surveying experience.
  • Knowledge of road construction grade layout and topographical cross sections.
  • Familiar with multiple surveying methods and GPS/conventional equipment.
  • Strong documentation, organization, and communication skills.
  • Able to work outdoors and in a team.

Responsibilities

  • Surveying and construction inspection during the season.
  • Ensure data accuracy and regulatory compliance.
  • Coordinate findings with engineering staff and project team.
  • Research and reference prior survey evidence as needed.
  • Junior CAD work in the office when not in field.
  • Learn road construction design fundamentals and reporting to seniors.
  • Maintain accuracy and attention to detail in construction inspection.
  • Produce CAD drawings after field season ends.

As Hatch continues to grow its presence in Northern Ontario, we are seeking a Junior/Intermediate Field Surveyor to play a key role in delivering some of the region's most impactful transportation infrastructure projects. Based in Thunder Bay, you will contribute to the planning, design, and delivery of complex highway and roadway projects while helping shape the future of transportation networks across Northern Ontario.

Responsibilities:
  • Surveying and construction inspection tasks during the upcoming construction season;
  • Ensure that collected information are accurate and conform to regulations and standards;
  • Coordinate findings of the work with engineering personnel, and others concerned with project;
  • Research previous survey evidence, maps, deeds, physical evidence, and other records to obtain data needed for surveys;
  • Junior design and CAD work in the office at other times;
  • Focus will be on learning more about road construction and design;
  • Reporting to senior field and office staff as required;
  • Accountable for accurate surveying and attention to detail in construction inspection;
  • Accurate CAD work once the seasonal field work ends.
Qualifications:
  • Graduated with a technology diploma in related field;
  • C.E.T or Geomatics Technologist, with minimum of 3+ years surveying experience;
  • Experience with road construction grade layout process and topographical cross sectioning as it relates to highway construction;
  • Knowledge in the various methods of surveying;
  • Strong technical, documentation, and organizational skills
  • Familiar with the latest software for downloading survey data from data collectors;
  • Able to work outside;
  • A team player, good communication skills, and excellent math skills;
  • Experience with GPS and conventional survey equipment and procedure.

Pay range: $56,000 to $64,000

Your individual compensation within this range will depend on factors such as skills, experience, qualifications and location.
