Job summary

Dawson Road Maintenance in Fort St. John, BC is seeking a Heavy Duty Mechanic to diagnose and repair a fleet of trucks and equipment. The role rewards a safety-conscious, production-oriented technician with a strong work ethic, reporting to the Mechanical Foreman in a seasonal full-time capacity.

Base location is Fort St. John, with possible travel within the province. The ideal candidate is an apprentice or journeyman with relevant licenses, safety focus, and ability to work with a team in

Qualifications

• Apprenticeship level in Heavy Duty or Commercial Transport Mechanic, with emphasis on safety and diagnostics.
• Optionally a Journeyman Certificate; willingness to advance is a plus.
• Valid BC driver's license; Class 5 or higher; 3 with Air is an asset.
• Welding experience and CVIP inspection license are advantages.

Responsibilities

• Safely perform vehicle inspections, diagnostics, and repairs on heavy-duty equipment.
• Adhere to policies, procedures, and safety standards.
• Maintain a safe working environment and communicate with management during repairs.
• Conduct daily bay inspections for cleanliness and safety, work with team to finish tasks efficiently.
• Adapt to various weather conditions and potential shift work as needed.

Dawson Road Maintenance is looking for a Heavy Duty Mechanic who will use their skills to tackle machinery challenges, ensuring our fleet of heavy-duty equipment operates with excellence.

In this role you will be a valued member of Dawson Road Maintenance, working in a seasonal, full-time position of Heavy Duty Mechanic, reporting to the Mechanical Foreman. This position requires a skilled and experienced technician; one who is safety-conscious, production oriented, and self-motivated to perform diagnostic and repair work on a variety of trucks and equipment. Your base location will be Fort St. John, BC and may require some travel throughout our great province.

WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE

• Safely perform accurate and complete vehicle inspections, diagnostics, and repairs
• Adhere to all policies and procedures
• Prioritize a safe working environment
• Liaise with management to ensure a smooth flow of communication during repairs or maintenance work
• Always strive to exceed industry standard by providing quality workmanship
• Perform daily bay inspections to ensure shop neatness/cleanliness, and safety
• Work closely as a team to ensure all tasks are completed efficiently
• Effectively work in all weather conditions and have the flexibility to work shift work if necessary

WHAT YOU BRING

• 3rd or 4th year apprentice in Heavy Duty or Commercial Transport Mechanic
• Journeyman Certificate is an asset
• Experience and / or certification in Automotive Mechanic is an asset
• Preferably Grade 12 education; and up-to-date technical knowledge acquired through trade-related courses since achieving TQ certification
• BC Driver's License, minimum Class 5. Class 3 with Air is an asset
• CVIP Inspection license is preferred, or willingness to acquire
• Welding experience is an asset
• Capable of performing heavy physical duties
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Prioritizes safety of self and team
