Job summary

Startec Refrigeration Service in Edmonton, AB is seeking an Industrial Refrigeration Mechanic (Journeyperson) to install, maintain, and repair industrial refrigeration systems across food processing, cold storage, and manufacturing sectors.

The successful candidate will report to the Lead Refrigeration Mechanic and leverage expertise in compressors, condensers, evaporators, controls, and electrical wiring to ensure safe, efficient operation and compliance with safety standards.

Qualifications

• Completion of a refrigeration mechanic apprenticeship program or equivalent certification as a Journeyperson Refrigeration Mechanic.
• Strong knowledge of industrial refrigeration systems, including compressors, condensers, evaporators, controls, and associated components.
• Proficiency in diagnosing and troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, and refrigeration system issues.
• Basic computer skills required (MS Office Applications).
• Strong customer service and relationship-building skills.
• Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions.
• Effective communication skills and ability to work in a team.
• Willingness to learn and develop technical skills through on-the-job training.
• Class 5 Driver’s License with a clean Driver's Abstract.
• Ability to work independently and on-call.
• Ability to work out of town. Travel and overnight stays may be required from time to time.

Responsibilities

• Install and maintain industrial refrigeration systems per engineering specs.
• Perform routine maintenance and repairs to ensure optimal performance.
• Monitor systems, adjust settings, and record data for efficiency.
• Follow safety protocols and handle refrigerants and hazardous materials.
• Interface with customers, provide updates, and document activities.
• Complete service reports and ensure accurate documentation.
