Job summary

Blue Grass Ltd. in Balzac, AB, is seeking a Heavy Duty Mechanic at Journeyman level or as a 4th-year apprentice to maintain a fleet of landscaping and farm machinery.

The role combines hands-on mechanical work with supervisory responsibilities to ensure continued operations. Ideal candidates have a Journeyman certificate or be a 4th-year apprentice, with 5 years of full-time experience, CVIP certification, and a Class 1 license considered an asset.

Qualifications

• Journeyman certificate or 4th-year apprentice in Heavy-Duty/Agri Mechanics.
• Minimum 5 years of full-time experience as a Heavy-Duty Mechanic or shop manager.
• CVIP certification is required; Class 1 license with air certificate is an asset.

Responsibilities

• Repair, overhaul, and maintain a fleet including dump trucks, loaders, highway tractors, track hoes, skid-steers, and trailers.
• Work on equipment such as super-b’s, low-boys, tandems, tri-axles, loaders, Teledynes, and forklifts.
• Oversee daily shop operations, including supervising apprentices, ordering parts, and maintaining a safe and clean work environment and following safety standards.
• Report directly to the Operations Manager and Senior Management.
• Ensure all repairs and maintenance are timely and cost-efficient.
• Foster effective communication and teamwork within the shop and with other departments.
• Be prepared to work on-site or off-site as needed.

• Strong knowledge of hydraulics and electrical systems.
• Proven experience supervising and training staff.
• Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Speak and understand English fluently
• Reliable, self-motivated, and able to work with minimal supervision.
