Job summary

New West Truck in Cranbrook, BC, is seeking a 3rd or 4th Year Apprentice Heavy Duty Mechanic to join our Cranbrook Service team. This role offers hands-on learning with experienced Journeypersons in a professional, safety-focused shop.

You will work alongside Journeypersons and Foremen, gaining diagnostic and repair experience across engines, drivetrains, electrical, hydraulic, and electronic systems. Competitive hourly wages apply, with progression through training and certifications.

Qualifications

  • Registered 3rd or 4th Year Apprentice Heavy Equipment Technician.
  • Previous experience in a heavy-duty service environment.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license required.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks and lift up to 50 lbs.

Responsibilities

  • Perform repairs and maintenance on heavy duty trucks and equipment under the guidance of Journeypersons and Foremen.
  • Assist with and perform diagnostics on engines, drivetrains, electrical, hydraulic, and electronic systems.
  • Follow repair procedures, safety standards, and manufacturer specifications.
  • Coordinate with Parts to ensure required components are available.
  • Accurately document work completed and track time.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
  • Participate in training and skill development opportunities.

Apprentice Heavy Duty Mechanic

3rd or 4th Year | Cranbrook, BC

Position Overview

We are seeking a 3rd or 4th Year Apprentice Heavy Duty Mechanic to join our Cranbrook Service team. This role is ideal for an apprentice who has built a strong foundation in the trade and is ready to take on increased responsibility while continuing to progress toward Journeyman certification.

You will work alongside experienced Journeypersons and Shop Foremen in a professional, well-organized service environment that values safety, accountability, and continuous development.

We offer competitive hourly wages based on apprenticeship level and experience, with clear opportunities for progression.

Hourly Rate: $37.96 – $44.21
Wages are set based on apprenticeship year, with additional increases available through completion of online training, certifications, and skill development.
