Job summary

Surepoint is seeking a certified Journeyman Electrician to join our employee-owned team in Fernie, BC. You will install, commission, and troubleshoot industrial electrical systems, including MCCs, switchgear, transformers, and solar power components.

Strong focus on safety, quality, and mentorship of apprentices drives daily work. You will read electrical drawings, participate in loop checks, and collaborate with project managers, engineers, and clients to achieve project objectives in diverse

Qualifications

  • Must be a Certified Journeyman Electrician.
  • Valid Class 5 license with a clean driver abstract.
  • Valid H2S, First Aid, OSSA Fall Protection, Aerial Work Platform, CSO, and CSTS an asset.
  • Previous experience in industrial or commercial construction is an asset.
  • Ability to work in various weather conditions and from heights as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Install and commission electrical infrastructure including cable tray systems, conduit, MCCs, switchgear, transformers, VFDs, and control equipment.
  • Read and interpret electrical drawings, single-line diagrams, schematics, P&IDs, and wiring diagrams.
  • Perform electrical testing such as continuity, insulation resistance, voltage and current checks, and functional verification.
  • Mentor and support apprentices, promote safe work practices, and collaborate with project teams to meet objectives.
  • Troubleshoot power, control, and instrumentation systems and assist with commissioning and turn-over activities.

What You'll Be Doing
  • Perform all work in accordance with Surepoint's environmental, health, safety, and quality policies, procedures, and client requirements.
  • Install cable tray systems, supports, conduit, and associated electrical infrastructure.
  • Cut, thread, bend, and install EMT, rigid, PVC-coated, and other conduit systems.
  • Pull, identify, gland, and terminate power, control, and instrumentation cables.
  • Install and commission electrical equipment including MCCs, switchgear, transformers, VFDs, batteries, solar power systems, heat trace systems, motors, and associated control equipment.
  • Read and interpret electrical drawings, single-line diagrams, schematics, P&IDs, wiring diagrams, loop drawings, and applicable electrical code requirements.
  • Perform electrical troubleshooting on power, control, and instrumentation systems using sound electrical theory and diagnostic techniques.
  • Install, wire, and troubleshoot AC and DC electrical systems, including three-phase power distribution, transformers, motor controls, PLC I/O, fire alarm systems, and industrial control circuits.
  • Perform electrical testing including continuity, insulation resistance (megger), voltage, current, resistance (ohms), and functional verification of electrical equipment.
  • Assist with commissioning, start-up, loop checks, and equipment turnover activities.
  • Work collaboratively with project managers, supervisors, engineers, clients, and other trades to safely complete project objectives.
  • Mentor, coach, and support apprentices by promoting safe work practices and assisting with technical development.
  • Maintain company tools, equipment, and vehicles in a clean, safe, and serviceable condition.
What You Need to Succeed
  • Must be a Certified Journeyman Electrician.
  • Valid Class 5 license with a clean driver abstract.
  • Valid H2S, First Aid, OSSA Fall Protection, Aerial Work Platform, CSO, and CSTS an asset.
  • Previous experience in the industrial or commercial construction settings is considered an asset.
  • Ability to work in various working conditions ranging from outdoors to indoors in a variety of weather conditions and working from heights as needed.
