Job summary

Canadian Natural invites students to join our Calgary head office as a Commercial Operations Intern focused on Joint Ventures. You will support contract and commercial administration, AFE review, partner engagement, and governance with cross-functional teams.

Ideal candidates are in 2nd–4th year of Business/Finance with a knack for detail, data integrity, and MS Excel. Power BI/Tableau experience is a plus; term is 8 months starting Jan or May 2027.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate program in Business, Accounting, Finance or related field.
  • Ability to collaborate in a results-oriented environment and drive continuous improvement.
  • Proficient with data visualization/reporting tools (Power BI/Tableau) and MS Office.

Responsibilities

  • Support JV governance and admin tasks across Joint Ventures.
  • Collaborate with Land, Accounting, Operations, and other areas to support JV activities.
  • Analyze data, resolve inquiries, and drive root-cause analysis for business issues.
  • Leverage data visualization to inform decisions and improvements.
  • Document and optimize business processes and controls.

The Opportunity

As a student working as a part of the Commercial Operations Team focusing on Joint Ventures, you will provide critical administrative and operational support. You will have the opportunity to collaborate with stakeholders across the business, including Land, Accounting, and Operations, while developing strong communication and customer service skills.

  • Job location: Calgary, AB – Head Office
  • Shift schedule: 5 days on, 2 days off, 8 hours/day (Monday – Friday)
  • Term length: 8 months
  • Term starts: January or May 2027
  • Safety sensitive position: No

Key Accountabilities
  • Contribute to team success through a variety of projects, operational activities, and continuous improvement initiatives involving:
    • Contract and commercial agreement administration
    • AFE review, approval coordination, and partner engagement
    • Joint Venture governance and ownership management
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across Land, Accounting, Operations, and other business areas to support Joint Venture activities and team objectives
  • Investigate, analyze and resolve business issues, stakeholder inquiries, and data discrepancies through root cause analysis, critical thinking, and sound business judgement
  • Leverage data analytics and visualization to drive process improvements and support informed decision making
  • Support the development, documentation, and optimization of business processes, controls and best practices
What You Bring to The Role
  • Currently enrolled in your 2nd, 3rd, or 4th year of an undergraduate degree in Business, Accounting, Finance or a Land Administration certificate or a related post-secondary education program such as Energy Asset Management (EAM)
  • Ability to foster a collaborative, results oriented work environment with a mindset for continuous improvement and value creation
  • Ability to manage multiple demands while maintaining a high degree of accuracy and data integrity
  • Familiarity with data visualization and reporting tools such as Power BI or Tableau
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and Word
