Cognizant is seeking a Java Playwright Automation Engineer to own the automated regression suite for Group Retirement Services platforms. You will write UI and API automation in Playwright with Java, integrated into CI, and determine release readiness based on evidence.

The role requires strong Java skills, experience with CI pipelines, and the ability to advance testing frameworks within an Agile environment. Hybrid work in Toronto is available with office days as needed.

About the role

We are seeking a Java Playwright Automation Engineer with strong experience in Group Retirement and Wealth Management platforms. In this role, you will build and own the automated regression suite for GRS platforms — plan member and plan sponsor portals, enrolment and contribution flows, and the record-keeping integrations behind them. You'll write UI and API automation in Playwright with Java, wire it into CI, and be the person who can say with evidence whether a release is safe to ship.

In this role, you will

• Design, build, and maintain end-to-end UI automation using Playwright (Java bindings).
• Strong proficiency in Java, including Streams, Lambdas, Collections, and modern design patterns.
• Hands on experience in Java-based automation framework development.
• Extend the framework itself: Page Object Model structure, reusable fixtures, test data management, config for multiple environments.
• Automate service-layer and API tests (REST Assured or Playwright's APIRequestContext) and push coverage down the pyramid where UI tests are slow or brittle.
• Integrate suites into CI/CD (Jenkins, Azure DevOps, or GitHub Actions) with parallel and cross-browser execution, plus reporting via Allure or Extent.
• Triage failures using Playwright trace viewer and logs, and distinguish real defects from flake — then fix the flake.
• Convert manual GRS regression packs into automated coverage and report coverage % by application.
• Work inside Agile ceremonies with BAs, developers, and business SMEs; contribute to test strategy, estimates, and definition of done.
• Support non-functional needs where relevant: accessibility checks, basic performance smoke, and data privacy handling for member records.

What you need to have to be considered

• Overall 8+ years of QA testing experience with 4+ years in test automation, with hands-on Playwright using Java (or strong Selenium-with-Java plus demonstrated Playwright migration work)
• Solid core Java: collections, OOP design, streams, exception handling — enough to build a framework, not just fill in step definitions
• Good understanding of Group Retirement, Pension, or Wealth domain exposure: DC/DB plans, RRSP/TFSA/DPSP, contributions and remittances, fund transfers, member statements, CRA contribution limits.
• Salesforce, mainframe, or record-keeping platform test experience.
• Maven Git branching workflows, and code review discipline.
• API testing and JSON/XML payload validation.
• SQL for test data setup and back-end verification.
• Comfort with CI pipelines and debugging failures that only appear in CI.
• Support CI/CD implementation and source code management using Git-based workflows.

Total compensation

We regularly assess market data to ensure we offer a competitive compensation package for our associates. The base salary for this position ranges between CAD 80,000 – 110,000 per year. Where the successful candidate may fall within the range depends on relevant education, work and/or management experience and other business-related and job-necessary qualifications. This position is also eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual performance-based bonus, as well as benefits that support your physical, mental and financial wellbeing.
