Job summary

Elk Valley Resources in British Columbia seeks an undergraduate student in Mining/Mineral Resource Engineering for a co‑op/internship starting January 2027. The role spans 8 or 12 months, offering hands‑on exposure to mine planning, drilling, blasting, surveying and economic evaluations.

You will support daily to monthly mine plans, safety programs and collaboration with engineering and operations in a dynamic field environment. Opportunities for professional growth and mentorship are included.

Qualifications

  • Pursuing an undergraduate degree in Mining/Mineral Resource Engineering.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License without learner restrictions.
  • Able to operate vehicles in varied weather and terrain.
  • Motivated self-starters with ability to manage several projects.
  • Comfortable working in a dynamic industrial environment with diverse personnel.
  • Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access).

Responsibilities

  • Participate in and adhere to health and safety programs and policies.
  • Collaborate with engineering and operations for daily/weekly/monthly mine plans.
  • Work on mine planning/design, including pit/dump design and fleets.
  • Contribute to drilling, blasting and surveying activities and provide technical services.
  • Monitor and analyze operating areas; assist geotechnical evaluations.
  • Assist with development, tracking and reporting of mine permit compliance.
  • Perform economic evaluations and productivity analyses; assist with capex docs.
  • Create and evaluate innovative ideas to improve business processes.

In this role, you will
  • Participate in and adhere to health and safety programs and policies
  • Collaborate with engineering and operations for the development of daily, weekly and monthly mine operations plans
  • Work in wide ranges of mine planning and design, including pit and dump design, traditionally operated and autonomous fleets, production scheduling, and optimization
  • Contribute to drilling, blasting and surveying activities and provide technical services to mine production and other mine site departments
  • Monitor and perform analyses of operating areas, work with geotechnical evaluations of mine plans and operating procedures
  • Assist with the development, tracking, and reporting of compliance of mine permits
  • Perform economic evaluations, productivity analyses, and assist with capital expenditure documentation
  • Create and evaluate innovative ideas and technologies to help improve the way we do business
Requirements
  • Working towards an Undergraduate degree in Mining/Mineral Resource Engineering
  • A valid Class 5 Driver's License or extra‑provincial equivalent, without learner's restrictions
  • Able to operate vehicles at our operations, in various weather conditions and terrain
  • Motivated self‑stators with the ability to manage several projects simultaneously
  • Comfortable working in a dynamic industrial work environment with a range of engineering, technical and operational personnel
  • Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills with a capability to communicate complex ideas to all levels
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access)
