Haliburton Community Housing Corporation is looking for a reliable, hardworking and independent Janitorial Assistant to join our team.
This position is responsible for maintaining clean, safe and welcoming common areas at our two residential housing properties in Haliburton. The successful candidate will work between both buildings.
Schedule: 24 hours per week; specific days and hours to be determined.
What You'll Do
- Clean and maintain lobbies, hallways, stairwells, elevators, laundry rooms, common areas and bathrooms.
- Clean HCHC offices and designated common areas.
- Vacuum, sweep, mop, dust and disinfect high-touch surfaces.
- Maintain garbage and recycling areas.
- Complete scheduled deep-cleaning tasks.
- Clean walls and other surfaces as required.
- Clean the range and refrigerator in the common lounge on a quarterly basis.
- Assist with cleaning of unit turnovers.
- Report maintenance concerns, safety hazards, damage, leaks, odours or other building issues to management.
- Help maintain a clean and safe environment for tenants, visitors and staff.
- Work independently and follow assigned cleaning schedules.
- Assist with other reasonable janitorial and property-related duties as required.
An Asset
Experience with any of the following is considered an asset:
- Grass cutting and lawn maintenance
- Operating lawn-care equipment
- Snow removal
- Salting/sanding walkways and entrances
- Residential or apartment-building cleaning/maintenance

- Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
- Comfortable working independently.
- Previous janitorial, cleaning, housekeeping or building-maintenance experience is an asset.
- Good communication and organizational skills.
- Professional and respectful when interacting with tenants, staff and visitors.
- Ability to safely perform the physical requirements of the position.
- Valid Ontario driver's licence and reliable transportation to travel between HCHC's two properties as required.
- Satisfactory police check.
- WHMIS and First Aid/CPR are assets.
Physical Requirements
This is an active, hands-on position. The successful candidate must be able to safely perform the physical duties associated with routine janitorial and building cleaning, including:
- Standing and walking for extended periods.
- Frequently bending, reaching, kneeling, crouching and climbing stairs.
- Sweeping, mopping, vacuuming and cleaning floors and other surfaces.
- Pushing and pulling cleaning carts and equipment.
- Lifting, carrying and moving cleaning supplies, garbage bags and janitorial equipment.
- Reaching and cleaning walls, doors, windowsills and other surfaces.
- Performing repetitive movements such as wiping, scrubbing and sweeping.
- Safely handling and using cleaning products and equipment.
- Working in common areas that may occasionally involve dust, garbage, odours, wet floors or other typical janitorial conditions.
- Working outdoors as required for seasonal duties such as grass cutting, snow removal, salting or sanding, where applicable.

- $21.00 per hour

- Benefits available following successful completion of the 3-month probationary period, subject to the applicable benefit plan.
