Job summary

Brockville General Hospital seeks a Housekeeping Aide to maintain clean patient and non-patient areas per established cleaning protocols. You will handle garbage collection, room setup and project work as needed in a busy hospital environment.

The role requires following written instructions, basic arithmetic for cleaning products, and the ability to work with staff, patients and visitors. Prior housekeeping experience and WHMIS/safety training are valued.

Qualifications

• Ability to read, understand and follow written instructions; basic arithmetic for cleaning solutions.
• Ability to relate tactfully with staff, patients, volunteers and visitors.
• Preference for prior cleaning/housekeeping experience and teamwork.
• Ability to operate cleaning equipment listed (Autoscrubber, scrubber, vacuum, floor polishers, steam cleaner).

Responsibilities

• Maintain assigned areas to hospital cleaning protocols and infection control guidelines.
• Perform cleaning project work, garbage collection, furniture moving and room setup as required.
• Participate in cycle cleaning such as window washing and floor stripping.
• Wear protective safety gear as required and follow WHMIS and safety programs.
• Demonstrate good attendance and reliability in scheduling.

Housekeeping Aide

Position: Housekeeping Aide

Competition: 2026-238 (Current Opportunity)

Status: Temporary Part-time ( up to 6 months with possibility of extension)

Department: Environmental Services

Union Association: CUPE

Salary: $26.86 - $27.28/hour

Hours: 0900-1700/1500-2300/2300-0700/0700-1500 weekdays and weekends (may include holidays) (subject to change based on operational needs)

Position Summary:

Responsible for maintaining assigned patient or non/patient care area of the Hospital in a clean and sanitary condition in accordance with established cleaning protocols and infection control guidelines.

Responsible for cleaning project work, garbage collection, furniture moving and room set-up as required.

Requirements:

• Demonstrated ability to read, understand and follow written instructions; to perform basic arithmetic calculations to determine appropriate proportions for mixing cleaning products and solutions; and the ability to prepare routine written reports normally acquired through the completion of a secondary school graduation diploma and a minimum of 1 (one) year experience or equivalent.
• Ability to relate in a tactful and sensitive manner with staff, patients, volunteers and visitors.
• Preference will be given to those individuals who have had related cleaning/housekeeping experience and have successfully worked as a member of a workplace team.
• Ability to operate and use cleaning equipment such as Autoscrubber, scrubber, vacuum, floor polishers, steam cleaner.

Knowledge, Skills and Responsibilities:

• Work requires demonstrated time management and organizational skills to complete assigned tasks and carry out work routines with limited direct supervision.
• Essential duties of the position requires prolonged periods of walking, standing, bending, lifting, pushing, pulling and lifting (to 50 pounds), climbing, bending and reaching.
• Work requires knowledge of cleaning products, methods and techniques,
• Ability to work independently and/or as a member of a team
• Flexibility to modify routines as required to manage changing priorities
• Ability to successfully complete WHIMIS, product and equipment handling safety programs as a condition of employment

• Responsible for furniture moving, room set up if required, and the collection of garbage, waste and soiled linen
