Job description

MacEwan University is seeking an IT Senior Security Analyst for a full-time continuing opportunity within the Information Technology Services department.

This senior technical role involves coordinating the development and support of IT security infrastructure. The successful candidate will identify and implement enhancements to improve reliability and information security across the University. The IT Senior Security Analyst is a subject matter expert responsible for architecting, installing, configuring, and securing network components, operating systems, software, and services. This position reports to the Director, Cyber Security & Chief Information Security Officer.

Key responsibilities include:

  1. Designing and implementing the University's IT security applications, controls, and procedures.
  2. Developing and extending security monitoring platforms to provide automated alerts, minimizing daily operational tasks within the Information Security department.
  3. Collaborating with other IT areas to enhance their security posture through industry best practices and DevOps automation.
  4. Investigating security issues and alerts, identifying root causes, and performing initial exposure assessments.
  5. Managing the IT asset vulnerability management program by ensuring proper patching and monitoring of systems.
  6. Facilitating the Cloud Security Assessment Program by reviewing assessments from potential cloud vendors and reporting key issues to the Chief Information Security Officer.
  7. Working with system administrators, network administrators, and other IT staff to remediate security issues.
  8. Contributing to the creation, maintenance, and delivery of security policies, standards, and procedures.
  9. Participating in annual security self-assessments against ISO, NIST, and other IT audit activities.
  10. Maintaining expertise across all IT areas, including Operating Systems, Networking, Software Development, and Web Architecture.
  11. Engaging with security professionals from other post-secondary institutions via industry mailing lists.

Skills

You will have:

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • A passion for cybersecurity with knowledge of computer networks, operating systems, software, hardware, and security.
  • Experience with diverse operating systems and platforms such as Linux, Windows, macOS, networking technologies, Active Directory, and LDAP.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • Security certifications such as CISSP, Security+, or GSEC from ISACA, ISC2, or similar organizations.
  • Equivalent education and experience may be considered.
