WHAT YOU WILL DO:

ROLE :

The IT Summer Student is a full-time, temporary summer placement in the Red Deer office and will work with other team members to support STEP professionals in their use of IT infrastructure and applications. The student will have opportunities to gain practical experience while utilizing the concepts and skills they have learned in their related academic program.

RESPONSIBILITIES :

• Deskside support tasks including hardware and software troubleshooting.
• Configuration and set up of physical IT assets (workstations, servers etc.) using imaging and other deployment tools.
• Processing of user account creation and termination requests.
• Applying security settings such as file permissions to IT resources.
• Writing scripts and developing small programs or workflows to automate tasks.
• Document and map IT and business procedures, processes and create instructional materials.
• Assist team members with operational projects and enhancements.
• Assist team members to resolve technical issues related to desktop hardware, software, technical applications, and business applications.
• Assist team with systems configuration, enhancements, maintenance and troubleshooting.
• Systems development and troubleshooting using a variety of development tools including low-code systems.

QUALIFICATIONS :

• Current enrollment in a post secondary program such as Computer Science or Information Systems Management programs.
• Familiar with products in the Microsoft ecosystem such as Office 365, PowerShell, SQL Server, Power Platform (e.g., PowerAutomate).
• Working knowledge of computer hardware components such as laptops, desktops, printers, networking, and peripherals.
• Experience navigating computer networks and security settings.
• Exposure to the full software development lifecycle.
• Experience with database scripts, report writing, analytics and BI is a plus.
• Ability to read and create business process maps, data flow diagrams and network models

• Strong diagnostic and technical analysis skills.
• Ability to work independently and as a flexible team player with excellent interpersonal skills, client support skills and a professional deskside manner.
• Capability of communicating highly technical ideas in plain terms.
• Ability to assess, plan and troubleshoot while collecting information about the client issues or requirements.
