Job description

  • Conduct detailed background, asset, and corporate investigations using advanced internet research techniques, databases, and other investigative resources
  • Conduct OSINT research across websites, social media, and other online platforms
  • Locate and identify individuals across Canada using databases, online research, inquiries, and investigative techniques
  • Research potential intellectual property concerns through online investigation and, when required, site attendances
  • Help identify key focal points, identifiers, and intelligence for surveillance and investigative resource deployment
  • Analyze information from multiple sources, recognize patterns and relationships, and develop clear findings from complex information
  • Document investigative activity and findings and prepare professional client reports according to Xpera standards
  • Conduct investigations in compliance with privacy legislation, internal policies, and OSINT best practices
  • Provide OSINT and investigative research support to Surveillance and Risk Management teams
  • Keep current with emerging technologies, online platforms, investigative tools, industry trends, and best practices
  • Participate in team meetings and training sessions
  • Attend court appearances or legal proceedings when required
  • Perform other investigative and related responsibilities as required
Requirements
  • Post-secondary education is preferred, particularly in Criminology, Forensic Crime and Intelligence Analysis, Journalism, Sociology, Psychology, or similar discipline
  • An equivalent combination of post-secondary education and relevant investigative experience will also be considered
  • At least 2 years of professional research and/or investigative experience
  • Experience working in a client-focused environment, with a strong commitment to professionalism, confidentiality, and service excellence
  • Completion of “Using the Internet as an Investigative Research Tool” training through Toddington International is preferred; candidates who have not completed it must be willing to do so within two months of joining
  • A valid Private Investigator [licence] within the applicable province of employment
  • A valid Driver’s License and satisfactory driving record
  • Access to a reliable vehicle licensed for business/commercial purposes
  • Ability to analyze information from multiple sources, identify relevant findings, and communicate conclusions clearly and accurately
  • Ability to work independently, manage priorities, and exercise sound judgment
  • Understanding of threat and risk assessment methodologies and analytics
  • Knowledge of the Canadian court system, insurance law, and privacy legislation is an asset
  • Exceptional written and verbal English skills
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Advanced research, analytical, and report-writing skills
