Job summary

The Greater Essex County District School Board is seeking an International Languages Instructor - Cantonese to teach Saturday morning sessions at a school site. Classes run from 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon, starting October 3, 2026, for a 25-week term with annual extension possible by agreement.

The instructor will teach Cantonese, use basic computer tools, and promote an inclusive learning environment. A Vulnerable Sector Check is required and experience with youth or adult learners is a plus.

Qualifications

• Proficiency and fluency in reading, speaking, and writing Cantonese.
• Proficiency with word processing and basic database software (Word, Excel or similar).
• Legally allowed to work in Canada, age 18+.
• Classroom experience is considered an asset.
• Current Vulnerable Sector Check is required.

Responsibilities

• Instruct students to learn Cantonese during Saturday morning classes.
• Duties include delivering lessons and maintaining a respectful, inclusive classroom.
• Assist with promotion of the International Languages Program.

The Greater Essex County District School Board invites applications from interested, qualified candidates for the position of International Languages Instructor - Cantonese. International Languages Instructor will instruct classes on Saturday mornings at a school site(s). Classes begin at 9:30 a.m. and end at 12:00 noon commencing October 3, 2026.

Job Summary

Position: International Languages Instructor - Cantonese

Duties: Instructing students to learn the language.

Term of appointment: October 2026 to May 15, 2027. This position is a 25 week assignment, extendable on an annual basis by agreement between both employer and employee.

Salary: $40.06 per hour (including pay for Vacation and Statutory Holidays) in accordance with the OSSTF Continuing Education Instructors Collective Agreement.

Nature & Scope Of Position

• Demonstrate strong collaborative, presentation, written and oral communication skills to support the delivery of the program.
• Demonstrate a commitment to and documented success in working to create a fair, inclusive, antiracist environment for all stakeholders, and to supporting diverse constituencies and populations.
• Assist with the promotion of the International Languages Program.
• Experience working with youth and adult students would be considered an asset.
• Current police clearance with a Vulnerable Sector Check is required.

Qualifications

Applicants must have at time of application:

• Proficiency in computer skills such as but not limited to: Word, Excel or other database software.
• Proficiency and fluency in reading, speaking, and writing in the international language of Cantonese.
• Legally allowed to work in Canada, over the age of 18.
• An interest and passion about languages.
• Classroom experience considered an asset.
• Effective organization, communication skills, and respect within the classroom environment.
