Job summary

Canadian Commercial Corporation in Ottawa, Ontario seeks a Legal Counsel for the DPSA line to provide advisory services on commercial export contracts and international agreements, with a focus on DPSA and U.S. procurement issues.

You will collaborate with stakeholders, conduct legal research, and support risk mitigation, policy development, and knowledge sharing while mentoring summer students in a hybrid Ottawa work environment.

Qualifications

• LLB/JD required and licensed to practice in Ontario.
• Minimum of three years of experience in commercial law and contracting.
• Knowledge of government contracting, public procurement, and international contracting.
• Familiar with legal administration and enterprise software.

Responsibilities

• Provide legal advice on discreet and complex issues including contracts, MOUs, and risk mitigation.
• Support DPSA operations with contract reviews, risk assessments, and timely amendments.
• Negotiate and interpret contracts between exporters and buyers, mitigating CCC liabilities.
• Conduct legal research on national and international instruments to guide business decisions.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to identify and mitigate corporate risk and ensure policy alignment.
• Participate in committees and provide input on CCC policies and practice updates.
• Engage with Government of Canada stakeholders to address evolving concerns.
• Deliver briefings and presentations on legal topics to internal teams.
• Attend events to foster business relationships with clients and suppliers.
• Mentor summer students.
