Job summary

North Bay Regional Health Centre is seeking a full-time Physician Assistant to support its Internal Medicine Service. The Physician Assistant will work collaboratively with internal medicine specialists to deliver high-quality acute inpatient care in the hospital's Internal Medicine and Critical Care units, and to provide inpatient medicine consultations.

Reporting to Medical Affairs leadership, the role involves weekdays, evenings, and weekends on a rotational schedule, with no overnight shifts

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant education program offered in Canada or the United States
• Certification through the Physician Assistant Certification Council of Canada or US NCCPA
• Registration in good standing with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO)
• Member in good standing with the Canadian Association of Physician Assistants
• Current BCLS Certification (recent as of one year)
• Recent past experience as a Physician Assistant in an inpatient medicine setting or relevant clinical placement in an inpatient medicine setting

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with physicians to provide comprehensive medical care and consultation to a diverse patient population
• Collect, interpret, and integrate patient information to support diagnosis and treatment planning
• Participate actively in daily multidisciplinary rounds
• Facilitate timely and safe patient discharges and transfers
• Contribute to a team-based approach that emphasizes quality, safety and patient-centered care

Position Description:

Reporting to the Manager of Medical Affairs and the Chief & Medical Director of Medicine, the Physician Assistant will work collaboratively with internal medicine specialists, to deliver high-quality acute inpatient care to the hospital's Critical Care Unit and internal medicine consultation to the hospital's inpatient medical and surgical units and emergency department.

This role functions in accordance with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario's policy on delegation and under approved hospital medical directives.

The Internal Medicine Physician Assistant will follow a rotational schedule that includes weekdays, evenings and weekends. No overnight shifts or on-call coverage will be required.

• Ability to support and contribute to a culture of safety and prevention of adverse health events required
• Must demonstrate good attendance and work record
• Bilingualism (French / English) is an asset
