Job summary

Hitachi Rail Canada Inc. is offering a Technical Safety Improvements and AI Intern co-op position in Toronto for 12 months (January 2027 to December 2027). The internship is full-time, onsite with a hybrid option, and spans 8–12 months.

You will contribute to process improvements, learn about project lifecycles, and gain hands-on experience with analytics, AI tools, and continuous improvement within the Technical Safety Department. 40 hours per week with a pay range of CAD 23–30 per hour.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a Bachelor’s (minimum 2 academic years) or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electronics, Electrical, Mechatronics, or Computer Engineering.
• Strong communication skills, oral and written.
• Desire and ability to learn quickly and contribute.
• Ability to work independently and seek help when needed.
• Hands-on experience with Excel, PowerPoint, scripting languages.
• Hands-on experience with AI tools.

Responsibilities

• Support continuous improvement initiatives completion and deployment.
• Support AI implementation within Technical Safety to increase productivity.
• Assist Functional Managers with various tasks.
• Assist with publication of local process coordination of the review of process documents.
• Support metrics collection and update KPIs.
• Update scripts or tools used by Technical Safety team.

We currently have a Technical Safety Improvement and AI Student co-op position available in our Technical Safety Department on a 12-month basis. This position will allow you to get in touch with the exciting world of urban transit. You will be exposed to and be able to contribute to process/practices improvements and to vastly improve your understanding of project/product lifecycle and process associated with it.

Key Job Functions
