Job summary

Ausenco in Vancouver is seeking an Intermediate Electrical Engineer to join our Minerals and Metals team. You will design electrical systems, perform studies, and prepare technical documentation for complex projects, ensuring safety and compliance.

The role requires an undergraduate Electrical Engineering degree, 8+ years of design experience, and eligibility for P.Eng in British Columbia. A strong team player with good communication is essential.

Qualifications

  • Recognized undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • P.Eng. with EGBC eligibility preferred.
  • 8+ years’ experience in electrical design for Mining, Municipal, Utility, Transportation projects.

Responsibilities

  • Perform electrical engineering system design, studies, investigations and analysis for new equipment or modifications.
  • Ensure design interfaces with other disciplines and meets QA/QC standards.
  • Prepare technical reports, tender documentation and field support including commissioning.

Our team in Canada is growing. We are currently recruiting for an Intermediate Electrical Engineer to join our Minerals and Metals Business line in the Vancouver office.

About the role
  • Perform electrical engineering systems design, studies, investigations and analysis, technical evaluations, cost estimates, and options analysis for new equipment or modifications to existing equipment and systems.
  • Ensure design work interfaces with that of other disciplines.
  • Recommend changes in plans and specify estimated costs.
  • Consult with other departments, suppliers and contractors to clarify specifications.
  • Evaluate supplier’s proposals and deliverable documentation.
  • Help prepare technical reports, tender documentation and field support (including commissioning/site inspection).
  • Ensure that engineering deliverables (e.g., drawings, specifications, analysis, budget estimates) comply with applicable regulations, standards, corporate procedures and sound engineering practices.
  • Review drawings to ensure accuracy, completeness and quality of technical information and project documentation in accordance with QA/QC programs.
  • Ensure that project deliverables are met in a timely manner to a high-quality.
  • Direct and mentor junior staff.
About you
  • Recognized undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Registered as a P.Eng. with EGBC or eligible to do so.
  • 8+ years’ experience in design of electrical systems within Mining, Municipal, Utility, Transportation projects. Experience working within an EPCM in heavy industry environment is preferred.
  • Experience in the design and specification of HV, MV and LV electrical distribution systems, including switchgear, MCCs, transformers, VFDs, motors, UPS systems, and associated electrical equipment.
  • Experience preparing and reviewing single-line diagrams, equipment specifications, electrical datasheets, load lists, cable schedules, and electrical layouts.
  • Experience performing or supporting power system studies, including load flow, short-circuit, grounding, protection coordination, and arc-flash studies.
  • Familiarity with power system analysis software such as ETAP, SKM, or EasyPower.
  • Strong working knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code and applicable Canadian electrical standards; familiarity with relevant IEEE and international standards is an asset.
  • Experience with grounding and bonding systems, equipment grounding, and electrical safety requirements for industrial facilities.
  • Experience with building electrical systems such as lighting, fire alarm, security, communications, fibre-optic, and data networks is an asset.
  • Experience supporting equipment procurement, technical bid evaluations, vendor document reviews, and interdisciplinary design reviews is preferred.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, planning and organizing abilities with excellent interpersonal skills.
  • A strong team player with the ability to work independently.

Salary range: $110-140K
