Job description

We are seeking an Intermediate Road Safety Engineer to support the delivery of practical, evidence-based solutions that improve safety for all road users. This role will contribute to the assessment, design and implementation of road safety initiatives across a range of transport and infrastructure projects. You will work with experienced engineers, planners, analysts and project stakeholders to identify risks, develop recommendations and help deliver safer outcomes.

Your responsibilities will include undertaking road safety inspections and assessments, reviewing crash data and traffic information, and identifying trends, hazards and opportunities for improvement. You will assist with road safety audits and reviews at various project stages, prepare technical reports, and develop cost-effective treatments for intersections, corridors, pedestrian facilities and cycling infrastructure. The role will also involve supporting traffic engineering investigations, contributing to design reviews, preparing technical documentation and presentations, and monitoring the effectiveness of implemented measures. You may also assist with client meetings, consultation activities, project planning and the coordination of work delivered by external consultants or contractors.

To succeed in this position, you will have a relevant degree in civil engineering, transport engineering, road safety or a related discipline, together with experience in road safety, traffic engineering or transport planning. Familiarity with road safety audit principles, crash analysis, traffic data interpretation and applicable design standards is expected. Experience using relevant analytical, design or mapping software will be advantageous. You will demonstrate sound problem-solving skills, attention to detail and the ability to communicate technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences. A collaborative approach, willingness to learn and the ability to manage competing priorities will be important. Professional accreditation, formal road safety audit training or eligibility for professional registration would be viewed favourably.
