Job summary

Echelon Insurance is seeking an Intermediate Property Claims Examiner to handle commercial and personal property claims on a national level within established authority. This role focuses on moderate complexity and severity, with responsibilities spanning investigation, coverage verification, reserves, and subrogation opportunities.

The ideal candidate has a college degree, CIP trajectory, and 3–5 years of property claims experience, plus strong communication and analytical skills.

Qualifications

  • College diploma or university degree completed.
  • Enrolled in and working toward FCIP designation.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience with commercial and personal property claims.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong diagnostic, analytical, organizational and time management abilities.
  • Experience with residential construction procedures and estimating software is a bonus.

Responsibilities

  • Investigate, evaluate and settle moderate complexity and severity property claims.
  • Review policy conditions, provisions, exclusions and endorsements.
  • Verify loss details and confirm coverage.
  • Review estimates, invoices and documentation supporting payments.
  • Document claim files and maintain claim reserves.
  • Identify post-loss recovery opportunities and pursue salvage/subrogation.
  • Prepare reports to management and reinsurers.
  • Participate in settlements at meetings, conferences, mediations.
  • Support marketing and client service initiatives.
  • Oversee third-party claims administrator activities.

Position Details

The Intermediate Property Claims Examiner is responsible for commercial and personal property claims on a national level within established authority level. This position involves claims of moderate complexity and severity.

  • Investigation, evaluation and settlement of claims of moderate complexity and severity, mainly through claims examining with occasional direct handing responsibilities.
  • Review and analyze policy conditions, provisions, exclusions and endorsements pertinent to a variety of property losses
  • Verify loss details and confirm coverage related to assigned claims
  • Review amounts on all estimates, invoices and documentation in support of payments
  • Document claim files with appropriate particulars of claim and claim handling adhering to claim documentation standards
  • Maintain timely and accurate claim reserves on files
  • Proactive identification, optimization and coordination of post‑loss recovery opportunities, identification of potential sources of recovery and ensure salvage and subrogation opportunities are identified and pursued to minimize claim losses
  • Prepare reports to management and reinsurers
  • Actively participate in settlement of claims at meetings, conferences, and mediations
  • Support all marketing and client/customer service initiatives
  • Oversight, monitoring and review of claims activities and services performed by third party claims administrator

The expected salary range for this position will be impacted by factors such as the successful candidate’s skills, experience and working location, as well as the specific position’s business line, scope and level. Who You Are
  • College Diploma or University Degree completed
  • Enrolled in and working toward (F)CIP designation
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of experience with commercial and personal property claims
  • Exceptional team player yet capable of operating independently to meet deadlines, prioritize workloads and achieve established service and performance standards
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong diagnostic, analytical, organization, negotiation and time management skills
  • Ability to bring resources together to achieve desired objectives and outcomes
  • In depth knowledge of residential construction procedures, methods, techniques and building and property estimating software programs experience would be a bonus
